Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Hotel Schlicker feels like stepping into one of those classic European hotels that somehow manages to be both traditional and welcoming without trying too hard. It’s tucked right into the heart of Munich‘s old town on Tal street, and honestly, the location alone makes this three-star property punch way above its weight. The building itself has that solid Bavarian charm — you know, the kind where you can tell it’s been hosting travelers for decades and knows exactly what it’s doing.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s the thing about staying in Altstadt-Lehel — you’re literally in the middle of everything that matters in Munich. I mean, Marienplatz is just a few minutes’ walk away, and you can easily stroll to the Viktualienmarkt for morning coffee or evening beer. What I really appreciate is that couples seem to get this location (they rate it 9.8, which is pretty much unheard of), and after staying here, I totally understand why. You’re close enough to duck back to your room between sightseeing, but far enough from the main tourist chaos that you can actually sleep at night.
The Room Experience
The rooms aren’t going to win any design awards, but they’re exactly what you want after a long day exploring Munich — clean, comfortable, and surprisingly quiet given how central you are. The beds are proper European firm (which I actually prefer), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. What really works is the attention to practical details — good lighting for reading, decent storage, and windows that actually open if you want fresh air instead of just air conditioning.
Breakfast and Practical Perks
The breakfast setup here is honestly better than it needs to be for a three-star place. They’ve got the full spread — continental basics, but also vegetarian options and gluten-free choices, plus they do a proper American-style buffet if that’s your thing. I was surprised by how much effort they put into accommodating different dietary needs. And here’s something you don’t always find in central Munich — they actually have private parking at the hotel. Trust me, if you’re driving in Bavaria, this is worth its weight in gold.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
There’s something to be said for a place that has more repeat guests than most other properties in the area. After staying here, I get it — it’s not flashy or Instagram-perfect, but it delivers on the basics really well. The staff seems to remember returning guests, the location never gets old (seriously, being able to walk everywhere in Munich’s center is incredible), and the whole experience just feels reliable. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want — a solid base for exploring one of Germany’s best cities without any unpleasant surprises or inflated prices for the privilege of staying somewhere central.

Guest Reviews
Lovely hotel, best breakfast and clean and comfortable.
Best area in old town.
Pricey but very good
What could be improved: Staff unfriendly and unwelcoming at check in.
Breakfast staff brilliant though, just reception staff unwelcoming.
Location
The location is amazing - just steps away from the attractions in old town.
What could be improved: Everything was great.
Our room on this night (second stay at the hotel) was at the front just above street level, which can be very noisy. When we closed the windows all street noise was blocked. That doesn't happen at other hotels nearby.
What could be improved: The room size was a little small and hard to move around with 3rd suitcase.
Amazing location. Centre of the centre
What could be improved: The wifi was a little flakey
Perfect location near Marienplatz. Easy to find. Good range of shops/cafes/restaurants nearby. Very friendly staff. Comfortable room. Great breakfast.
The location is ideal for sightseeing, parking is great, breakfast is good, staff is very friendly, and the hotel is pretty. The reception was very accommodating.
What could be improved: Room was small but that did not detract from the comfort.
Clean, great location
What could be improved: Nothing
Location, cleanliness, delicious breakfast in adorable area of the hotel
What could be improved: The bells that could be heard ringing at 7am
The staff, breakfast, and location were excellent.
