Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Olympic on Hans-Sachs-Straße, you immediately get that “this feels right” vibe — it’s one of those three-star places that punches above its weight without trying too hard. The building has this classic Munich charm, and honestly, the location alone makes you feel like you’ve made a smart choice. I mean, you’re right in Ludwigsvorstadt, which is basically where locals actually hang out, not just where tourists get shuffled to. The neighborhood has a genuine, lived-in quality that makes you feel connected to the city from day one.
The Neighborhood Advantage
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re walking distance from the Hauptbahnhof, but you’re not dealing with all that train station chaos right outside your window. The street itself is pretty quiet, lined with those typical Munich buildings that make you feel like you’re actually in Germany, you know? There’s a great little bakery just around the corner that locals hit up for morning coffee, and the Theresienwiese (where Oktoberfest happens) is literally a ten-minute stroll away. During the off-season, it’s just this massive green space that’s perfect for an evening walk. The area truly captures the essence of authentic Munich living.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was clean and functional — nothing fancy, but everything worked exactly as it should. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given at this price point), and the windows open properly, which is surprisingly refreshing after staying in places with those weird tilt-only windows. You get decent Wi-Fi, a small desk if you need to get some work done, and the bathroom is compact but well-designed. The shower has proper water pressure, which honestly made my day. Every detail has been thoughtfully considered for guest comfort.
Getting Around Munich
What really sold me on this place was how easy it made exploring Munich. You can walk to Marienplatz in about fifteen minutes if you’re feeling energetic, or just hop on the U-Bahn — the Goetheplatz station is right there. The hotel staff actually knows the area well and gave me some solid recommendations for dinner spots that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps. There’s decent parking nearby if you’re driving, though honestly, you won’t need a car much once you’re settled in. The transportation connections make this location exceptionally convenient for visitors.
Why Guests Love It
The 8.7 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve stayed here — it’s that sweet spot where everything just works without any drama. Couples seem to really dig this place, and I can see why; it’s got that cozy, authentic Munich feel without being stuffy or pretentious. The staff is genuinely helpful (not just going through the motions), and the whole experience feels more personal than what you’d get at a big chain hotel. You’re paying for location and reliability here, and you actually get both, which is rarer than it should be. This hotel delivers exceptional value for discerning travelers.

Guest Reviews
Only positive vibes
hotel is quite and romantic
What could be improved: breakfast is not good, don't pay for it. it's only cold food
The breakfast was always fresh and delicious and the servers were cheerful and kind.
The staff was very helpful and nice!
Lovely traditional hotel!
Great property, staff and rooms. Good breaksfast service and good location overall
What could be improved: My room faced the street right above a bar that was open until 1:00am or later on a Monday and Tuesday with people constantly getting out to smoke and chat very loudly. In the morning the noise from the street starts at 7:00am so basically 5 hours of sleep at the best
Really close to Metro Station, just 3 stops from MarienPlatz. Although my stay was short and without breakfast, I can say that the room was very spacious, beds comfortable. The bathroom had everything I needed. Highly recommended!
Slightly kooky old world style hotel. If my best mate owned a hotel and hadn't seen me in years he couldn't have given me a better welcome.
Highly recommended
Fresh fruits, yummy jam and breads
What could be improved: Nothing
Perfect location, close to everything, didn't have to use transport at all, excepting to my train from East terminal.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast, I had only one because I left early for day trip, but it worthed it. Comfortable room for alone traveler (It is rare), a little old fashionable like the whole hotel, but it had its own charm.
What could be improved: It would be nice to have some teamaker in the room. I'm sure I would be provided with one if I asked.
Great location and breakfast. wonderful for business travelers. I needed to modify my reservation and the staff was very helpful
Quiet & unassuming, compact & chic & with Netflix !
