Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Olympia on Maxhofstrasse, you immediately get the sense this is a place that knows its regulars — and honestly, that’s exactly what it is. The three-star property has this understated charm that grows on you, especially when you realize there’s free parking right on-site (which, if you’ve ever driven in Munich, you’ll know is basically gold). It’s not trying to be flashy, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about the whole setup that makes you understand why so many guests keep coming back.
Location & Neighborhood
The Thalkirchen area is one of those Munich neighborhoods that locals love but tourists often overlook — which actually works in your favor. You’re far enough from the city center chaos to get a good night’s sleep, but close enough that getting to Marienplatz or the main sights doesn’t require a major expedition. What I really appreciate is how couples seem to gravitate toward this spot; there’s something about the quieter residential feel that makes it perfect for a romantic getaway. The nearby Isar River paths are ideal for morning walks, and you’ve got authentic Bavarian restaurants within easy reach that haven’t been completely overtaken by tour groups.
The Rooms & Comfort
The accommodations at Hotel Olympia strike that sweet spot between comfortable and unpretentious. You won’t find marble bathrooms or designer furniture, but everything works exactly as it should — the beds are genuinely comfortable, the Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and the rooms are clean without that sterile hotel smell. I mean, when you’re spending your days exploring Munich’s beer gardens and museums, you really just want a reliable place to crash. The fact that so many guests return tells you everything about how well they maintain the basics.
Service & Atmosphere
There’s definitely a family-run feel to the service here, even if it’s not technically a family operation. The staff remembers faces, which explains why the repeat guest rate is so high compared to other Munich hotels. You know what really impressed me? They actually seem to care whether you have a good stay, rather than just going through the motions. It’s not overly formal or stuffy — just genuine hospitality that makes you feel like you’ve made a smart choice rather than just booked a random room.
Why Guests Love It
Honestly, Hotel Olympia succeeds because it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. Recent guests consistently rate the location highly, and when you factor in things like free parking and that neighborhood charm, it starts to make perfect sense. This is the kind of place where you can actually relax between sightseeing adventures, where couples can enjoy Munich without feeling like they’re staying in a tourist factory. If you’re looking for a solid base in Munich that won’t break the bank but still delivers on the essentials, this three-star gem in Thalkirchen really delivers.

Guest Reviews
Lovely residential area
What could be improved: Near shops and a top class restaurant
great place on the U-bahn. Stayed multiple years.
What could be improved: NA
Location
What could be improved: No breakfast; noisy
Location was excellent for the tube into munich. Ample free parking. Nice outside area. Spotlessly clean. Extremely helpful staff, they were excellent. Very nice restaurant around the corner.
-room, and even the floor is very clean
-great to have sink and water in the room
-quiet and safe environment /surroundings
-friendly and helpful staff
-good wifi
What could be improved: -bed sheet , blanket is not clean enough, still visible dust
-a bit far from the city and trade fair ground
Despite the fact that every thing in the room is aged the room and bathroom was very clean.
The room was big and clean
Comfortable beds. Clean room.
What could be improved: Not enough sockets in room to charge phones and some in inconvenient locations.
Staff is SO nice! Bed felt exceptionally comfortable, everything's so clean too.
What could be improved: The rooms don't have a bathroom, so you have to share with other guests. In my opinion, renting a private room is all about having your own bathroom; but that may be how I see it, not necessarily you; just wanted to tell.
Clean room, all is fine. Hairdryer, TV. Warm. No Mini
What could be improved: I was charged for breakfast although I paid for it by booking. Too little no-milk options.
