You know what? Hotel Olympia is one of those places that doesn’t try to be something it’s not – and honestly, that’s exactly why it works. When I first walked into the lobby, I wasn’t blown away by marble floors or crystal chandeliers, but there was something immediately comfortable about the whole setup. The reception desk had this warm wood finish that looked like it had been there for decades (in a good way), and the staff actually looked up and smiled when I came through the door instead of finishing their conversation first.

The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star place – clean, functional, with that particular hotel smell that’s somehow both generic and reassuring at the same time. My room had one of those vintage air conditioning units that sounds like a small airplane taking off, but it actually kept the place cool, which is more than I can say for some fancier places I’ve stayed. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious, and I mean that – usually these older properties have bathrooms the size of airplane lavatories, but someone clearly thought this through. The shower pressure was decent too, which matters more than people admit when they’re writing reviews.

What really struck me was how the place feels lived-in rather than sterile. The hallway carpeting has that slightly worn pattern that tells you real people have been walking these halls for years, and there’s something oddly comforting about hearing the gentle hum of other guests settling in for the night. The breakfast area – well, it’s not going to win any design awards, but they do this thing with fresh local pastries that arrive around 7:30 each morning, still warm from wherever they get them. I actually found myself looking forward to that little ritual. The coffee’s nothing special, but it’s hot and strong enough to get you moving. Staff seems to know the regulars by name, which gives you a sense of the kind of place this is – somewhere people come back to, not just pass through. That 7.6 rating makes perfect sense to me; it’s not trying to be a luxury experience, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
