Walking up to Hotel New Orly on Gabrielenstraße, you immediately get the sense that this place knows what it’s doing. It’s one of those four-star hotels that doesn’t try too hard to impress you — instead, it just quietly delivers on everything that actually matters. The building has this understated elegance that fits perfectly into the Neuhausen-Nymphenburg neighborhood, and honestly, that’s exactly what you want when you’re staying in Munich.

The Neuhausen-Nymphenburg Experience

Here’s what I love about this location — you’re close enough to everything important, but far enough from the tourist chaos to actually breathe. Nymphenburg Palace is practically around the corner, which means you can wander over there early in the morning before the crowds arrive. The neighborhood itself has this authentic Munich feel, with local cafes and shops that haven’t been completely overtaken by souvenir stands. You know what’s really nice? There’s parking right at the hotel, which if you’ve ever tried to park in central Munich, you’ll understand is basically a small miracle.

The Room

The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from a solid four-star property — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed without being flashy. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I mean, you can actually sleep through the night), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. What struck me most was the attention to small details — good lighting for reading, outlets where you actually need them, and windows that open properly for fresh air.

Food That Actually Delivers

I’ll be honest — hotel food can be hit or miss, but the restaurant here surprised me in the best way. The breakfast buffet is substantial without being overwhelming, with both continental options and some heartier German choices that’ll fuel you for a day of exploring. What really impressed me was the dinner service — the kitchen clearly takes pride in what they’re putting out, and you can taste the difference. It’s the kind of place where you might actually choose to eat at the hotel rather than feeling like you have to.

Why Guests Love It

There’s something to be said for a hotel that just works without making a big fuss about it. The staff genuinely seems to care about your experience, couples particularly seem to love the area (and I can see why — it’s got that romantic, residential Munich vibe), and you’re positioned perfectly to explore both the city center and the more authentic local neighborhoods. It’s not trying to be the flashiest place in town, but sometimes that’s exactly what makes a hotel special. You leave feeling like you’ve experienced the real Munich, not just the tourist version of it.
