Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Metropol by Maier Privathotels on Mittererstraße, you immediately get that “this is exactly where I want to be” feeling. It’s one of those three-star places that punches well above its weight — honestly, the location alone makes it feel more premium than the rating suggests. The building has this understated elegance that fits perfectly into Munich’s Ludwigsvorstadt district, and you can tell the Maier family knows what they’re doing with their collection of private hotels. The attention to detail throughout the property reflects a genuine commitment to guest satisfaction.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re literally in the heart of everything, but it doesn’t feel touristy or overwhelming. The Ludwigsvorstadt neighborhood is where locals actually hang out, with authentic beer gardens and cafes just around the corner. You can walk to Marienplatz in about ten minutes, but honestly, some of the best discoveries happen when you’re just wandering the streets right here. The fact that they offer private parking is huge for Munich — I mean, finding a spot in this area usually involves circling blocks for ages. The neighborhood truly captures the essence of authentic Bavarian culture.
The Room Experience
My room was exactly what you’d hope for from a well-run family hotel — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed without trying too hard. The Maier touch shows in the details, like actually good lighting for reading and outlets where you need them. It’s not flashy, but everything works perfectly, and the beds are genuinely comfortable. You know what really impressed me? The soundproofing — even though you’re in the city center, nights are surprisingly quiet. The furnishings strike an ideal balance between modern comfort and classic style.
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast situation here is actually fantastic — they’ve got this buffet setup that covers pretty much every dietary need you can think of. Continental classics, vegetarian options, vegan choices, and even gluten-free selections that don’t feel like afterthoughts. I watched them carefully manage everything, and it’s clear they take the food seriously. The restaurant area has this warm, welcoming vibe that makes you want to linger over coffee, which is exactly what I ended up doing most mornings. The quality of ingredients and preparation elevates the entire morning experience.
Why Guests Love It
That 8.9 rating really tells the story here — this is a hotel that consistently delivers on its promises without any pretense. Couples especially seem to connect with the place (they rate the location 9.1, which makes total sense), probably because it strikes that perfect balance between being central and intimate. The Maier Privathotels approach really works — you get the personal attention of a family-run place with the reliability of a small hotel group that knows what they’re doing. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’ve discovered something special, even though it’s right there in plain sight. This hotel represents the best of Munich hospitality.

Guest Reviews
good size room, nicely decorated
fantastic and high quality breakfast
super friendly staff
good shower
great location
What could be improved: nothing to dislike
We chose this hotel in 2023 for their Booking ratings and they didn't surprise us. We liked them too much, we returned in 2024 and 2025. The hotel is very central, minutes from the central station, from where one can reach anywhere and everywhere in Munich. Even though it is also very easy to reach Marienplatz region via rails, in case needed easy to walk to. The hotel is modern, very clean. The rooms, the bathrooms, all linen and towels were always super clean. We didn't include breakfast since we prefer to have breakfast at different places during our visit, so can't comment on that. All the personnel are nice and kind, always happy to help.
What could be improved: There is nothing not to love, everything was fine. Only that, if You are used to high service hotels, waiters pacing around etc. this place might not be right for You.
The location was perfect for walking into the city center and access to the train station. The room was clean and quiet. No complaints.
The staff was very pleasent, the breakfest had a big varity.
What could be improved: The room smelled weired, and we didn't really like the location itself, felt a bit shady during the late evening.
I selected the hotel because of its proximity to the main train station. It is almost literally across the street, so it made day trips from Munich very easy. The staff was incredibly cordial and made us feel right at home. Our friends and we like to play cards in the evening and they let us use the breakfast room. On more than one occasion, the front desk person would bring in a little snack for us. There are several fine restaurants in the immediate neighborhood. Normally I steer away from hotels that close to the main train station because the neighborhood is frequently a bit shaky. In this case I highly recommend the Hotel Metropol if you want to prioritize this.
What could be improved: Really nothing to dislike. Just keep expectations realistic. It's not a boutique hotel, but rather a comfortable and vry hospitable one.
Very clean, good location, happy to have thermostat in the room.
We got during the morning at were allowed to checkin early at no extra cost.
Confortable and clean room.
The included breakfast was abundant and varied.
What could be improved: Location close to the main train station is not that nice, in particular because there is a lot construction in the area. Noise starts as early as 7 am.
Close to everything. Staff extremely helpful
Good place to stay in Munich. 10-15 mins to city center. Clean comfortable room
What could be improved: Nothing to add
Excellent location, large new room, sitting area in the room, good shower, balcony,
