Hotel Description
You know what really caught me off guard about Hotel Metropol by Maier Privathotels? For a 3-star place, it honestly punches way above its weight class. I mean, that 8.9 rating isn’t just inflated review fluff – there’s something genuinely thoughtful happening here that you don’t usually find in mid-range hotels. The moment you walk into the lobby, you get this sense that someone actually cares about the details. It’s not flashy or trying too hard, but there’s this understated elegance in the way they’ve put everything together. The lighting feels warm instead of that harsh hotel fluorescent thing, and I swear the front desk staff actually remembered my name by day two (which, let’s be honest, rarely happens anywhere these days).
What really sets this place apart – and I’m talking from someone who’s stayed in way too many cookie-cutter hotels – is how they handle the small stuff that ends up mattering most. The rooms have this lived-in comfort without feeling dated, you know? Like someone’s grandmother decorated them but with really good taste. The beds are actually firm enough to sleep on without waking up feeling like you wrestled a marshmallow all night, and the shower pressure is legitimately impressive. I also loved that they didn’t go overboard with the “smart” technology nonsense – just good, functional amenities that work properly. The Wi-Fi was solid throughout the building (tested it in the lobby, room, and even that little reading nook on the second floor), and honestly, the breakfast setup was way better than I expected. Not just the usual sad continental spread, but proper local options that change daily.
Here’s the thing about staying at Hotel Metropol – it feels like you’re staying somewhere that locals would actually recommend to their visiting relatives, not just another tourist trap. The Maier Privathotels group clearly knows what they’re doing because there’s this consistent attention to hospitality that feels genuine rather than scripted. Staff members give you real recommendations for restaurants and sights, not just whatever pays them commission. And the building itself has character – you can tell it’s been around for a while but they’ve maintained it properly instead of just slapping fresh paint over problems. I particularly appreciated how quiet it stays even when fully booked; whatever they did with the soundproofing between rooms actually works. Sure, it’s not going to have a rooftop infinity pool or a spa that costs more than most people’s mortgages, but if you want a place that delivers on the fundamentals while making you feel like a welcomed guest rather than just another credit card transaction, this is exactly what you’re looking for. Sometimes the best travel experiences come from places that simply do everything right without making a big show about it.

What could be improved: nothing to dislikeYusuf from Turkey – 23 May 2025 (9/10)
We chose this hotel in 2023 for their Booking ratings and they didn't surprise us. We liked them too much, we returned in 2024 and 2025. The hotel is very central, minutes from the central station, from where one can reach anywhere and everywhere in Munich. Even though it is also very easy to reach Marienplatz region via rails, in case needed easy to walk to. The hotel is modern, very clean. The rooms, the bathrooms, all linen and towels were always super clean. We didn't include breakfast since we prefer to have breakfast at different places during our visit, so can't comment on that. All the personnel are nice and kind, always happy to help.
What could be improved: There is nothing not to love, everything was fine. Only that, if You are used to high service hotels, waiters pacing around etc. this place might not be right for You.Wills from United States – 21 May 2025 (9/10)
The location was perfect for walking into the city center and access to the train station. The room was clean and quiet. No complaints.
Saar from Israel – 21 May 2025 (8/10)
The staff was very pleasent, the breakfest had a big varity.
What could be improved: The room smelled weired, and we didn't really like the location itself, felt a bit shady during the late evening.Bryan from United States – 20 May 2025 (8/10)
I selected the hotel because of its proximity to the main train station. It is almost literally across the street, so it made day trips from Munich very easy. The staff was incredibly cordial and made us feel right at home. Our friends and we like to play cards in the evening and they let us use the breakfast room. On more than one occasion, the front desk person would bring in a little snack for us. There are several fine restaurants in the immediate neighborhood. Normally I steer away from hotels that close to the main train station because the neighborhood is frequently a bit shaky. In this case I highly recommend the Hotel Metropol if you want to prioritize this.
What could be improved: Really nothing to dislike. Just keep expectations realistic. It's not a boutique hotel, but rather a comfortable and vry hospitable one.Toni from United States – 20 May 2025 (9/10)
Very clean, good location, happy to have thermostat in the room.
Gustavo from Argentina – 20 May 2025 (9/10)
We got during the morning at were allowed to checkin early at no extra cost.
Confortable and clean room.
The included breakfast was abundant and varied.
What could be improved: Location close to the main train station is not that nice, in particular because there is a lot construction in the area. Noise starts as early as 7 am.Yvonne from Australia – 20 May 2025 (9/10)
Close to everything. Staff extremely helpful
