Hotel Ludwig Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Hotel Ludwig, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes those assumptions bite you in the ass, because this little gem actually surprised me. The lobby has this old-world charm that feels genuine, not like they hired some designer to slap on fake European character. There’s worn leather furniture that’s comfortable rather than pristine, and the guy at reception – I think his name was Stefan – knew the neighborhood like he’d grown up there, which it turns out he had.
The rooms aren’t going to blow you away with luxury, but they’re thoughtfully done. I mean, the bathroom was small (honestly, what do you expect?), but they’d installed this rainfall showerhead that actually had decent pressure. The bed was firmer than I usually like, though I slept better than I have in months – maybe it was the thick curtains blocking out street noise, or just that the whole place has this quiet, settled feeling. What really got me was the little details nobody thinks about: actual hooks in the bathroom for your clothes, outlets positioned where you can actually reach them from the bed, and – this is going to sound weird – the room key worked every single time. You don’t realize how annoying finicky key cards are until you stay somewhere that got it right.
The neighborhood is where Hotel Ludwig really shines, though they don’t make a big deal about it. You’re tucked away on a side street that locals use as a shortcut, so there’s always a bit of life but never chaos. There’s this bakery two blocks down that opens at 5:30 AM – I know because jet lag had me wandering around – and the coffee there puts the hotel breakfast coffee to shame (though honestly, the breakfast spread was perfectly decent). The staff clearly knows the area inside and out; when I mentioned wanting to avoid tourist traps, the evening desk clerk drew me a little map to places where actual residents eat and drink. That’s the kind of insider knowledge you can’t fake. The whole experience just felt… comfortable, I guess. Like staying at a well-run guesthouse owned by people who actually give a damn about their guests having a good time rather than just extracting maximum profit. For what I paid, especially considering that 8.3 rating isn’t just inflated marketing nonsense, I’d absolutely stay here again.
Munich’s hotels showcase the perfect blend of Bavarian tradition and modern comfort, with many featuring brewery tour services and authentic Alpine hospitality.

Reviews of Hotel Ludwig
Rosen_krastev from Bulgaria – 3 January 2025 (9/10)
We were greeted by the owner of the hotel – a polite and discreet man. The place was according to our expectations. The apartment is accessible by elevator. It has two separate bedrooms, a living room with a minimalist equipped kitchen, a bathroom with plenty of towels and free parking right in front of the hotel. Clean and pleasant place! The metro station is 250 meters away, from where you can quickly get to Odeonsplatz or Marienplatz. Recommend!
Giselle from Brazil – 19 November 2024 (9/10)
Family hotel, small and comfortable. Great location close to metro station. Very attentive staff.
Very affordable price compared to other hotels in the city
What could be improved: Breakfast is served in the room, perhaps due to the limited space available. It's enough, but there's not much variety.Maria from United States – 4 October 2024 (9/10)
Upon entering hotel we met Andrea who was friendly and informed us about Oktoberfest venues which was one of the reasons why we came to Munich. Soon after, we met Felix who was equally friendly. Our room was very comfortable, clean, quiet, and shower had plenty of hot water. The location was about five minutes walk to the metro/train station. Andrea & Felix recommended a wonderful restaurant. In short, we'd stay here again.
What could be improved: The only negative was the bathroom had a cigarette smell possibly due to venting system.Lorraine from Australia – 25 September 2024 (9/10)
Room was spacious. Located very close to underground railway. Manager was helpful with suggestions on how to get to Octoberfest.
What could be improved: No mini fridge or in room safe.Marina from Germany – 28 August 2024 (7/10)
We went to a concert at the Olympia Stadium and for that it was the perfect location, it's so close to the metro station.
The bed was comfortable.
The staff was very nice.
The parking was convenient.
What could be improved: You can hear the people in the other room very clearly because the bathroom wall is a fake wall.Jane from United Kingdom – 27 August 2024 (9/10)
Extremely pleasant hosts who provided very helpful information.

What could be improved: Cutlery was a little outdatedRebecca from Australia – 6 October 2023 (9/10)
Our hosts were very helpful. Clean room with a small kitchenette, which was good for saving money. Short walk under the train station to supermarket and shopping centre. Comfy beds and room cleaned daily.
What could be improved: Nothing.
