Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Hotel Leopold, you immediately get that feeling of stumbling onto something locals have been keeping to themselves. It’s not flashy or trying too hard — just a solid three-star property that knows exactly what it’s doing. The lobby has this understated elegance that feels authentically Munich, and honestly, the staff seem genuinely happy to see you rather than just going through the motions. You can tell right away why so many guests keep coming back here.
Location & Neighborhood
The location on Leopoldstraße is actually brilliant, and I mean that — couples consistently rate it over 9 out of 10, which tells you something. You’re right in Schwabing-Freimann, which puts you in one of Munich’s most vibrant neighborhoods without the tourist circus of the old town. The English Garden is practically on your doorstep, perfect for morning runs or afternoon beer garden sessions. What’s really nice is how easy it is to hop on public transport from here — the U-Bahn connections make getting anywhere in the city a breeze, but you’re also in walking distance of some fantastic local restaurants that most visitors never discover.
The Rooms
The rooms strike that perfect balance between comfort and practicality that you want in a three-star hotel. They’re not huge, but they’re thoughtfully designed with everything you actually need rather than stuff that just looks good in photos. The beds are genuinely comfortable — I’m talking about the kind of sleep where you wake up confused about what time zone you’re in. What impressed me most was the attention to details like proper reading lights and enough outlets for all your devices. The bathrooms are compact but well-appointed, and you know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what you want after a long day exploring the city.
Breakfast & Amenities
The breakfast buffet here is one of those pleasant surprises that sets the tone for your entire day. It’s not just the usual continental spread — they’ve got local specialties mixed in with international options, and the coffee is actually good (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given). Having private parking at the hotel is a game-changer if you’re driving, especially in this part of Munich where street parking can be a nightmare. The fact that they have so many repeat guests tells you everything about the consistency of service — people don’t keep coming back to places that disappoint.
Why Guests Love It
Hotel Leopold has figured out something that a lot of fancier places miss — it’s about creating an experience that feels right rather than impressive. The combination of that stellar location rating and the loyal customer base isn’t accidental. You’re getting authentic Munich neighborhood vibes with the convenience of being well-connected to everything else you want to see. It’s the kind of place where you can have a proper local experience during the day and still get a great night’s sleep in a comfortable, well-run hotel. For the price point, it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises.
Travelers should reserve a hotel in Munich at least two months ahead for major events like Oktoberfest, ensuring the best rates and prime locations near festival grounds.

Guest Reviews
Location great for access to u bahn and buses.
Good selection of food at breakfast
What could be improved: Would have liked a kettle and tea/coffee making facilities
There two people on reception and bar were very helpful and friendly. The hotel is priced aggressively but has a charming retro feel to it that make it really work. Breakfast was good value and excellent. This hotel should market its retro credentials. People would respond. Great parking garage also
What could be improved: nothing
Front desk staff were always very pleasant. Enjoyed the breakfast and the spacious dining area. Good transport links nearby. Room very basic, but clean, quiet and cozy with a comfortable mattress, plentiful hot water/good shower pressure, and responsive heating. I also appreciated that the hotel felt traditional and had character, rather than being a bland corporate chain.
The room was clean! Breakfast was good - there was bacon, 3 different types of eggs, there was fresh fruit and vegetables, cheeses , meats - everything you need for a. proper breakfast! :)
What could be improved: -
It is in a quiet area close to public transportation.
What could be improved: The decoration and rooms need refurbishing.
Friendly and helpful hotel staff
What could be improved: Toilet seat wasn’t cleaned properly. I was bit upset about that
breakfast was great
What could be improved: Check in process
Fantastic breakfast!
I liked the hotel, the room and the localisation.
What could be improved: Coffee was really bad as well as the behaviour of one od the ladies at the counter who had an unpleasant attitude. The other lady was fortunately really kind and well mannered.
Friendly staff, very good breakfast. I had tasty coffee and gluten-free bread. Plenty of choice and tasty fruits
What could be improved: There was a bit of mold in the bathroom, probably due to improper ventilation from previous guests.
