Hotel Description
You know what’s funny about Hotel Hauser an der Universität? I almost walked right past it the first time – it’s got this understated entrance that doesn’t scream “hotel” at you, which honestly turned out to be part of its charm. The whole place has this quiet, scholarly vibe that makes perfect sense once you realize you’re basically in the heart of Munich’s university district.
The thing that struck me right away was how the staff actually seemed to know their neighborhood. When I asked about getting to the English Garden, the guy at the front desk didn’t just point me toward the tourist route – he told me about this little side entrance that locals use, maybe a ten-minute walk through some tree-lined streets where you’ll pass students hurrying to lectures with their arms full of books. It’s that kind of insider knowledge that you don’t get at the big chain places. The rooms themselves are what I’d call “thoughtfully simple” – clean lines, decent-sized windows, and honestly, the beds are better than you’d expect from a 3-star place. I mean, I’ve stayed at supposedly fancier hotels where I woke up with a crick in my neck, but here I actually slept well. The bathrooms are compact but functional, and there’s something refreshing about a place that focuses on doing the basics really well instead of cramming in a bunch of unnecessary gadgets.
What really won me over was the morning routine – you’ll hear the city waking up gradually, students on bikes clattering over cobblestones, the distant hum of trams. It’s energizing without being chaotic. The breakfast setup is straightforward German fare (good coffee, proper bread, nothing too fancy), and you’ll often find yourself sharing the dining room with visiting professors or parents dropping kids off at university. There’s this authentic slice-of-Munich-life feeling that you just can’t manufacture. The location really is the secret weapon here – you’re close enough to walk to the main sights when you want to do the tourist thing, but you’re also positioned to experience the city like someone who actually lives here. Late evenings, you can wander back through quiet residential streets instead of fighting through crowds of other travelers. Sure, it’s not the kind of place with a rooftop bar or a spa, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want – somewhere genuine and unpretentious where you can just settle in and feel like a temporary local rather than a passing visitor.
Hotel in Munich booking should be done early, especially during Oktoberfest when the city hosts the world’s largest beer festival and cultural celebration.

Ideal for exploring the galleries and the opera in Munich.
This small family run hotel is quiet, comfortable and very clean with a delicious breakfast.
I will certainly stay again.Seshadri from United Kingdom – 22 February 2025 (9/10)
Everything about the hotel was well thought out and convenient. Just lots of little touches, each one individually not so important and might even sound silly to mention, but all put together made perfect use of the available space in the room and made the stay so comfortable. Breakfast was very nice and the staff were helpful. Location is excellent: close to the Englischer Garten, a walkable distance from the old town and right next to the Universitaet station.

The family owned atmosphere, the location, modern bathroom and sound proof windows
What could be improved: The wi fi was very sketchy. Constantly going outHeather from United States – 2 October 2024 (9/10)
The hotel was very clean and an easy walk to everything we wanted to do. Oktoberfest was only 20 minutes by public transit but we found the 40ish minute walk very nice. The breakfast buffet in the morning was wonderful and our room was perfect for two people.
What could be improved: We brought our own toiletries which was nice as the hotel had a 3in1 combo body wash shampoo but did not have conditioner.Patrice from United Kingdom – 2 October 2024 (9/10)
The staff were very helpful and the environment was very clean
What could be improved: The breakfast choice was not for me.
Also, it would be nice if a kettle was provided in the roomAndres from Canada – 26 September 2024 (9/10)
Delicious breakfast. So close to Marienplatz and other tourist spots … 20 to 30 minutes for me.
What could be improved: Bathroom may be cramped for some. I'm 6 feet tall and over 200 pounds but I didn't find it a problem.Gennady from United States – 23 September 2024 (9/10)
all excellent

I was on a business trip, and I needed a convenient location close to the metro lines I needed to take. But even for a touristic visit, the location is actually very convenient. I was surprised at how efficient the hotel was, and it had a very good breakfast in the morning that I really enjoyed. The single room I had was not large, but it had everything I needed and was very practical.
