Overview
You know what? Hotel Grünwald surprised me. I mean, when you see “3-star” you’re not exactly expecting magic, but this place has something going for it that the star rating doesn’t capture. The moment I walked into the lobby, there was this immediate sense of – well, it’s hard to describe – like someone actually cares about this place. Not in a fancy, over-the-top way, but in that genuine, family-run kind of way that’s getting harder to find.
The rooms are honestly better than I expected. Nothing flashy, but everything works and it’s clean in that proper German way (you know what I mean if you’ve traveled here). The beds are firm – some people might find them too firm, actually – but I slept like a baby. What really got me was the attention to small details. Fresh flowers in the hallway, decent coffee in the breakfast room, and the staff… they remember your name after one night. That 8.8 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there a few days. It’s not about marble bathrooms or rooftop pools – it’s about feeling like you’re staying somewhere that gives a damn.
I’ve got to mention the breakfast because, honestly, it’s way better than it needs to be for a place like this. Real local bread (not that generic hotel stuff), proper German cold cuts, and they actually ask if you want your eggs a certain way instead of just pointing you toward a sad buffet warmer. The dining room gets morning light that makes everything feel optimistic, if that makes sense. Parking was easy – there’s a small lot behind the building that most guests don’t seem to know about, so you can usually find a spot even when the street parking fills up. Check-in was smooth, no drama, though I did notice they seem to get busier on Sunday evenings when business travelers start filtering in for the week. If you’re the type who needs absolute silence, maybe pack earplugs – you can hear a bit of street noise, but it’s not terrible and it dies down after 10 PM or so.
Hotels near me in Munich offer convenient access to the old town, where guests can easily walk to Neues Rathaus, Viktualienmarkt, and traditional beer gardens.

Guest Reviews
Everything went well from checkin to check out, Stayed here several times now and will definitely come again next year
Everything was very well, the welcoming owner, the staff and the lodging conditions. Quiet neighborhood, pleasant to walk around. Daily room service was a plus. The owners are sensitives to protect the environment. Very nice yard with tables an umbrellas. They have even a room with a table near the lobby where you could stay and eat if you need to. Very good breakfast.
This was my first time at Hotel Gruenwald, I chose it as it is close to an S-Bahn station and only a short journey into central Munich. The hotel was bigger than I expected but felt cosy is family run and has a great ambience. My room was a good size and very comfortable.
I very much enjoyed the breakfast provided, the choice of rolls and cold buffet, The breakfast staff also took an order to cook a hot breakfast. The scrambled eggs and Speck were delicious. .
I will definitely stay there again on my next trip to Munich.
What could be improved: Nothing major, I would have preferred a different pillow but for 3 nights it was acceptable.
We had a triple room and it was excellent with the 3rd fold out large couch in a seperate area. Great value for money in Munich and close to transport. Great value breakfast and very friendly staff love the family type atmosphere.
What could be improved: Not much, it could have been closer to the city but that would have increased the price so nothing to mention.
It was perfect.
Very clean, comfortable room. Tasty breakfast. VERY helpful staff. I lost my phone at Oktoberfest and they were extremely helpful in obtaining the information that I needed to retrieve it by allowing my to use the front desk computer and phone.
What could be improved: Can't think of anything.
Everything went perfectly. Nice, quiet neighborhood, shops (bakery, pharmacy, bar/restaurants, banks). all within a 2-4 minute walk. Breakfast was great. Staff very friendly and helpful. The place is spotless clean :). The courtyard is great to just sit and relax with a drink on a nice day
What could be improved: Can't think of anything. There was nothing that I did not like
We stayed here 8 yrs ago for our first trip to Munich. Nice quiet location, easy walking distance to the trains that will take you to city center or Oktoberfest. Great breakfast too. We highly recommend and we will stay here again when in the Munich area.
What could be improved: Nothing
