Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard the name Hôtel du Train, I figured we were in for one of those quirky railway-themed places with model trains running around the lobby. But you know what? It’s actually way more subtle and charming than that. The whole “train” thing seems to come from its proximity to the station (which, by the way, is incredibly handy if you’re doing that whole car-free European adventure thing), and there’s just this gentle nod to travel throughout the property without beating you over the head with conductor hats and whistle sounds.
The rooms are what I’d call “proper three-star” – nothing fancy, but everything works and it’s clean in that distinctly European way where housekeeping actually cares about corners and baseboards. I mean, you’re not getting marble bathrooms or Egyptian cotton sheets, but the beds are comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up cursing my booking choices. The windows are decent quality too, which matters more than you’d think when you’re near a train station. I was worried about noise, honestly, but either the trains stop running at reasonable hours or the soundproofing is better than expected – slept right through the night. What really got me was the breakfast setup. It’s not some sad continental spread with stale pastries, but actually feels like someone put thought into it. Fresh bread that’s clearly from a local bakery, proper coffee (not that filter stuff that tastes like sadness), and they even had some regional specialties that changed depending on the day.
The staff deserves a mention too – they’ve got that perfect balance of being helpful without hovering. When I couldn’t figure out the shower controls (European bathrooms, am I right?), someone actually came up and showed me instead of just explaining over the phone. Small thing, but it matters. The whole place just feels like it’s run by people who actually stay in hotels themselves and know what travelers want. That 8.3 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does, it does really well. For the price point, you’d be hard-pressed to find something better, especially with that location advantage. Just don’t expect a pool or 24-hour room service – this is solid, dependable accommodation that lets you focus on why you’re traveling in the first place.
