Hotel Description

Hotel Daniel sits right on Sonnenstraße in Munich’s old town, and honestly, the location is pretty much perfect if you want to be in the thick of things without paying Marienplatz prices. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from the main square, but you’re not dealing with the constant tourist chaos right outside your window – though you’ll definitely hear some street noise during the day since Sonnenstraße is fairly busy.

The hotel itself has this understated, almost minimalist vibe that feels very Munich somehow. It’s not trying too hard to be boutique-y, which I actually appreciate. The lobby is compact but welcoming, with dark wood touches and clean lines that make the space feel bigger than it is. Check-in was smooth when I stayed – the staff genuinely seemed to know the city well and had solid recommendations beyond the obvious tourist spots. They pointed me toward a great little café on Blumenstraße that I never would’ve found otherwise. The rooms are on the smaller side (this is Munich, after all, where space is premium), but they’re thoughtfully laid out. Everything feels purposeful rather than cramped, if that makes sense. The beds are actually comfortable – not just hotel-marketing comfortable – and the bathrooms are modern without being sterile.

What really works about Daniel is how it fits into the neighborhood. You’re surrounded by that mix of locals and visitors that makes Altstadt-Lehel interesting rather than just touristy. There’s a fantastic bakery literally next door where you’ll see the same Munich residents grabbing their morning coffee every day, and you’re close enough to the Isar that you can easily walk down to the river when the city feels too busy. The Lehel side of things means you get some of that residential quiet in the evenings, but you’re still close enough to stumble home from the beer halls in the old town. Parking is… well, it’s Munich, so it’s complicated and expensive, but there are options nearby if you’re driving. I’d honestly just skip the car though – the U-Bahn and S-Bahn connections from here are solid, and you can walk to most of what you’ll want to see in the historic center. The 7.6 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow you away with luxury, but it delivers on the basics really well and the location genuinely can’t be beat for the price point. It’s the kind of place that works because it doesn’t overpromise and then actually follows through on what it does offer.

Reviews

  • Very Good – Pendrick from Netherlands – July 26, 2025 (8/10)

Really friendly staff, everyone was welcoming and kind. I booked super last minute, it’s close to the station and includes a good breakfast.

What could be improved: The room is slightly outdated but not a problem at all.

  • Very Good – Lynne from United Kingdom – July 20, 2025 (8/10)

The location of this hotel was spot on. Near all the tram stops and just around the corner from many bars, restaurants and places of interest. Not too far a walk from the train station too. The staff were really helpful and check-in was super easy. The rooms were basic but clean and comfortable. Considering it is slap bang in the middle of Munich it was relatively quiet for a centrally located hotel. Would definitely use this hotel again for a short stay.

What could be improved: Would have been great to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room but it didn't spoil our stay.

  • Great location, good rooms and staff. – Yelena from Armenia – July 18, 2025 (9/10)

The location is amazing, everything is accessible either by foot or by tram/metro nearby. The staff was welcoming and nice, rooms was pretty big, we enjoyed our time spent in Munich

  • Great stay and nice hotel! – Glenn from United Kingdom – June 30, 2025 (9/10)

Booking ease and communication, size of room, staff.

What could be improved: No tea or coffee in the room.

  • The location was perfect for a first visit directing myself & husband from train to hotel then the location the venu – Nicola from United Kingdom – June 16, 2025 (8/10)

Location was perfect considering it was my first time in munich, it was perfect both day and night for shops, food ect.

What could be improved: I didn’t dislike the property, my only insult was the fact that I had paid upon booking the property upon leaving the lady charged me again, not only would the confirmation email both printed and on my phone plus the app she still was not happy. So to my embarrassment I was searching through my luggage for the invoice slip received when checking from the other staff. Full breakfast s had been paid for but we never even ate, due to us being preoccupied but there should have been no issues.

  • I will still consider staying in this hotel shall I be back in Munich. – Michelle from Philippines – June 15, 2025 (9/10)

The location was perfect! It was indeed a walking distance to the old town. The pick up place going to places like Neuschwanstein Castle tour and Ingolstadt village outlet was just a 10 sec walk from the hotel entrance. The hotel is situated between to access points to the subway. In front of the hotel is a tram station. Going to Hauptbahnhof station is about a 10 min walk.
The room was spacious. Receptionists were all kind, accommodating and helpful. The people during breakfast were friendly too. Food was acceptable too.
The bath area is enclosed so the toilet area is still kept dry even after showering. It was good that we had the option to open our window when we don't was to use the AC.

What could be improved: The last 2 nights we were there, I had a challenge to sleep straight because the hotel is near a bar and the sound of the bass was somewhat loud.

  • Perfect Location, Even Better Staff – Robert from United Kingdom – March 2, 2025 (7/10)

For the price of the stay, it was phenomenal. In a really convenient location – 10 minute walk from München Hbf and 10 minutes to Marienplatz.

Room was a decent size (double room, with 2 single beds) and a good sized bathroom.

Special shoutout to Sara on the front desk; I’ve never met a hotel receptionist that was so accommodating and lovely – she did a fantastic job at giving us advice on where to go and what to see, and made our stay even more enjoyable! We really appreciated the extra mile she went for us.

What could be improved: In the bathroom there wasn’t a pole to hold the shower head – you could still have a decent shower with the handheld shower head, but definitely would’ve preferred not having to hold it!

  • It was a very pleasant experience. – Prema from South Africa – December 13, 2024 (7/10)

I loved the location. Within walking distance of Marienplatz. SBhan 2 minutes away. Hauftbahnhof 10 minutes walk. Tour busses across the road. Vibey area. I felt safe being alone. Will highly recommend this hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

What could be improved: There is no kettle or fridge in the room.

  • First night was very quiet but the second night was very noisy. A large group of young men made a – Rita from Canada – October 15, 2024 (9/10)

    Breakfast was wonderful.

What could be improved: A number of people sleeping on the street. We have this at home too. Didn’t want to walk along at night because we didn’t know the area.

  • Wonderful – Morr from Israel – August 16, 2024 (9/10)

The location is great, the room was large and nice, the beds very comfortable, the air condition good and the staff at the reception helpful.

What could be improved: The curtains didn't block the light in the morning and there was no minibar/fridge in the room.
