Hotel Description
You know what? I’ve walked past Hotel Carlton Munich probably fifty times over the years, and honestly, I always figured it was just another decent mid-range spot in the city center. But when I finally stayed there last spring – well, let me tell you, it’s one of those places that completely exceeds whatever expectations you might have for a 3-star hotel.
The thing is, Carlton sits right in that sweet spot where you’re close enough to everything that matters but tucked away from the tourist chaos. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from Marienplatz, but the street itself is quiet enough that you can actually sleep with the windows cracked open – which, trust me, is not something you can say about most central Munich hotels. The building has this old-school Bavarian charm that feels authentic without being kitschy, and the lobby… well, it’s nothing fancy, but there’s something reassuring about the worn leather chairs and the way the staff actually remembers your name after day two. Check-in was smooth – no waiting around, which I appreciated after dragging my luggage up from the U-Bahn.
What really won me over, though, was how the place just works for actual travelers. The rooms aren’t Instagram-worthy or anything, but they’re comfortable in that “I could live here for a week” kind of way. My room faced the inner courtyard, so it was genuinely quiet (even during Oktoberfest season, which says something), and the bed was surprisingly good – firm but not like sleeping on concrete. The bathroom was small but functional, with decent water pressure and those little European towel warmers that make everything feel just a bit more civilized. I actually loved that they had real blackout curtains instead of those flimsy hotel drapes that let in every streetlight. And honestly? The WiFi was faster than what I have at home, which is saying something.
Look, this isn’t the kind of place you’ll be posting photos of online, but it’s exactly where you want to be if you’re planning to spend your days exploring Munich rather than hanging around the hotel. The breakfast spread is solid – proper German bread, decent coffee, and they don’t skimp on the cheese selection. Plus, there’s this little bakery around the corner on Sendlinger Straße that locals actually go to, not just tourists, and the hotel staff will point you toward spots like that instead of the obvious tourist traps. I stayed five nights and never felt like I was missing out on some fancier hotel experience. Sometimes you just want a place that does the basics really well, you know? Carlton nails that completely.

Good value Hotel a 10 minute walk from Odeon Platz. Very clean hotel in a good location 10 minute walk from the center. 1960 style hotel, which is a good value for Munich, which can be expensive. Friendly , family owned environment. Would recommend if you would like a good value hotel in Munich..

I liked that it was in an old building and kept the old-style bathroom tiles. You can open the double windows; the room was spacious. Wonderful local hotel.
What could be improved: The air freshener in the hallway was too strong.Nermin from Germany – 26 February 2025 (7/10)

The hotel is within short walking distance to the city center. Quite a large and spacious room, the building has high ceilings and large windows. During our visit a breakfast was not offered, however, they gave a kettle upon request. There is a very nice cafe 30 m away where you can have breakfast.
To get parking, you need to write to the hotel in advance so that they can issue a permit for parking on the nearby streets. It is quite possible to find a place to park.
The staff is very friendly.
What could be improved: The furniture may not be the most modern, but it is decent and in a good condition.
However, our fridge looked dead and we kept our medicine between the window shutters as it was cold outside. So we didn't bother the staff about the non-working fridge.Peter from Sweden – 2 November 2024 (9/10)
Really nice and cozy hotel. I traveled with wife and two kids. Its a bit rough around the edges, but is very well kept. Super nice personell. The area is also very nice, close to altstadt and the Ubahn at odeonsplatz
