You know what struck me first about Hotel Bayerischer Hof? The lobby actually feels like someone’s incredibly wealthy grandfather’s house – if your grandfather happened to have impeccable taste and a thing for Bavarian elegance. I mean, this is proper old-school luxury, the kind where staff members seem to anticipate what you need before you even think of it. The place has that solid 5-star foundation you’d expect, but it’s the little touches that got me – like how they remember your coffee preference from day two onwards, or the way the concierge doesn’t just give you directions but sketches little landmarks on hotel stationary so you won’t get lost.

The rooms are honestly gorgeous, though I’ll warn you the traditional Bavarian décor isn’t for everyone. Think rich fabrics, dark woods, and enough character to make most boutique hotels look bland by comparison. What really impressed me was the attention to sound – you’d never guess you’re in the heart of Munich when you close those heavy doors. The bathrooms are properly spacious too, which seems obvious for a place like this but you’d be surprised how many fancy hotels skimp there. I stayed during Oktoberfest season (probably paid twice what I should have, but that’s on me) and while the city was absolutely mental outside, the hotel maintained this sort of calm sophistication that felt like a refuge.

Here’s the thing though – the 8.3 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve been there. It’s not trying to be trendy or Instagram-perfect, it’s just really, really good at being a luxury hotel. The breakfast spread is ridiculous in the best way, the bar knows how to make a proper drink, and somehow they’ve managed to keep that personal touch despite being fairly large. The location puts you walking distance from all the main sights, but more importantly, you’re close enough to slip into those little side streets where locals actually eat and drink. Honestly, if you’re looking for that classic European grand hotel experience – the kind your parents might have splurged on for anniversaries – this is exactly what you’re picturing in your head, just executed really well.
