Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Hotel Antares München? It’s tucked into this perfectly unassuming spot on Amalienstrasse where you’re literally surrounded by Munich’s creative heart without all the tourist chaos. I mean, you’ve got the university district buzzing around you, but step inside and there’s this immediate sense of calm that honestly caught me off guard. The lobby has that understated German efficiency thing going on – clean lines, warm lighting, none of that over-the-top hotel theater that makes you feel like you’re performing just by walking through. The staff actually remembers your name after day one, which sounds small but makes such a difference when you’re dragging yourself back after a long day of wandering Munich’s beer gardens.

What really won me over was how the location works in practice, not just on paper. You’re a five-minute walk from Odeonsplatz (where all those gorgeous yellow buildings make you feel like you’re in a postcard), but here’s the thing locals know – you’re also super close to all these little cafés and bookshops that don’t make it into guidebooks. There’s this bakery called Rischart just around the corner where you can grab proper German pretzels that put hotel breakfast bread to shame. The rooms themselves are what I’d call “thoughtfully simple” – nothing fancy, but the beds are actually comfortable and the windows open properly, which is surprisingly rare in city hotels. I stayed on the third floor and honestly, Munich’s surprisingly quiet at night in this area. You get some street sounds during the day, but it’s more like gentle urban white noise than anything jarring.

The Maxvorstadt neighborhood is having this moment right now – it’s where Munich’s art scene is really happening, with galleries popping up in converted spaces and students from nearby Ludwig-Maximilians University keeping everything lively but not obnoxious. From Hotel Antares, you can easily walk to the English Garden (which is massive and perfect for morning runs), or catch the U-Bahn at Universität station when your feet need a break. What I appreciated most was how the hotel felt like a home base rather than a place you’re just sleeping between tourist activities. The lobby has these comfy chairs where people actually sit and read, not just pose with their phones. It’s a solid 3-star that punches above its weight – you’re paying for location and genuine hospitality, not marble bathrooms or champagne service you probably don’t need anyway.

Nice breakfast that was included. Super clean room and great location. The staff were really helpful and friendly.

What could be improved: Maybe tea/coffee in the room, but that would probably also make it crowded.

Very well located not far from the old town and next to the universities.

  • Wonderful – Juho from Finland – April 27, 2025 (9/10)

Super friendly and welcoming staff. The atmosphere was cozy and rooms were clean and nice. Also the beds were just great. Nothing too fancy but everything worked perfectly and it really was a pleasure to stay here. Garden side room was quiet and you could even hear birds chirping if you opened the window.

Location was superb as the old town was reachable by foot, and U-bahn and S-bahn stations were close.

    100% would recommend!

  • Good value for money – Pia from Australia – April 23, 2025 (9/10)

Great location close to museums and bars/ restaurants. My room was to the courtyard, nice and quiet. Breakfast included a lot of choices & staff was really nice.

What could be improved: All good. The furniture might not be the newest, but everything was clean. I would recommend using the "don't disturb" sign during breakfast – the cleaning personnel was already cleaning my room when I re-entered my room, which was a bit awkward.

  • Very Good – Yevgeny from Israel – April 18, 2025 (8/10)

The room os slightly small, perfect location and exceptional breakfast
