Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard the name “Hotel an der Oper,” I figured it was going to be one of those stuffy, overly formal places where you’re afraid to laugh too loud in the lobby. But actually, it’s got this perfect balance thing going on that really surprised me. Yeah, it’s clearly positioned to catch the opera crowd (hence the name), but the vibe is way more relaxed than you’d expect from a 4-star spot in what I’m assuming is a pretty prime location.
The thing that struck me right away was how the staff actually seems to know their stuff about the neighborhood. You know what I mean? Like, when I asked about grabbing dinner, the concierge didn’t just hand me a generic tourist map – he started talking about this little place two blocks over that the locals hit up after shows, and mentioned which nights tend to be quieter if you’re not into crowds. That kind of insider knowledge is worth its weight in gold when you’re trying to feel less like a tourist. The rooms themselves are solid – I mean, nothing revolutionary, but everything works the way it should, the beds are actually comfortable (not just pretty), and honestly, the soundproofing is better than I expected. That matters more than you think when you’re staying somewhere that probably gets a lot of post-theater foot traffic.
What really won me over, though, was the attention to those little details that most places completely miss. The lighting in the rooms is actually functional – you can read without squinting, imagine that. Check-in was smooth without being robotic, and the whole place has this lived-in feeling that makes you think people actually enjoy working there. Sure, it’s not going to blow your mind or end up on Instagram a million times, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want. The 8.3 rating makes total sense to me – it’s the kind of place that does everything well without trying to be something it’s not. If you’re looking for a spot where you can decompress after a long day of sightseeing, actually get some sleep, and wake up feeling like you’re staying somewhere that gets it, this place delivers on that promise without the drama.

Guest Reviews
Location was excellent
What could be improved: Rooms very small.
Great location, the room is small but very clean and has everything you need(No water kettle)
Breakfast is very limited but enough for light morning eaters.
What could be improved: If your room is facing the street, it can be very noisy in the night with people partying and city vehicles go back forth.
The cleaning person should’ve knocked the door first instead of barge in.
The location to old town, restaurants and shops was ideal. The room was lovely, quiet, very spacious and comfortable. Also, the staff were lovely - especially the cleaners who I had a laugh with. It was good to have a kitchenette (but no washing machine unfortunately) and a coffee machine. an iron and board was provided upon request. Our stay was excellent.
What could be improved: Just a couple of small things as feedback. The room looked good but there were several things that needed repairs (make up mirror, fridge door catching on draw when opened). Also breakfast was kind of average compared to other hotels we've used throughout Germany. Although I wouldn't let it stop me from staying here - I'd stay again.
Location was fantastic. It’s a good 4 star rated hotel. Housekeeping was excellent.
What could be improved: Lift is a little small.
Comfortable rooms and friendly staff. Great location
Location. Cleanness. Staff members. Osteria at the ground floor.
Clean and comfortable facility with a very nice bathroom. Staff was friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: Multiple steps to get to lobby & no doorman.
Hired us an excellent car for transportation to the airport, but it was expensive (100 euro). Property has a great location. Surprisingly quiet.
What could be improved: One night there was a loud group till 3 am and management did nothing. They apologized but didn’t even comp us breakfast. I would t return.
Hotel was very clean and comfortable. It is located very close to the city centre which we would reach in less than 10 mins walk. There is a subway close by,which connects you to the main train station, if you want to explore other places by train. Alternatively you can use taxi's for short trips within the city if you want to reduce the walking. Breakfast was also good.
Cozy hotel in the center of Munich Altstadt. Very good breakfast.
