Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Altmünchen by Blattl, you immediately get that “this is the real Munich” feeling. The three-star property sits right on An der Hauptfeuerwache, which honestly sounds more intimidating than it is — it’s actually a charming street in the Altstadt-Lehel district. The building has that classic Bavarian character without trying too hard, and you can tell from the moment you step inside that this place takes hospitality seriously. The staff genuinely seems to care about getting things right, which becomes pretty obvious when you realize how quickly they respond to any questions you might have.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s the thing about Munich — location is everything, and Hotel Altmünchen by Blattl absolutely nails it. You’re literally in the heart of the old town, which means Marienplatz is just a few minutes’ walk away. I mean, you can practically hear the Glockenspiel from here (okay, maybe not literally, but you get the idea). What I really love is that couples consistently rate this spot a 9.3 for romantic trips, and honestly, I get it. There’s something about being able to stroll through those narrow cobblestone streets to dinner, then walk back to your hotel without dealing with trams or taxis. Plus, you’re close enough to the main attractions but far enough from the tourist chaos to actually get some sleep.
The Room Experience
The rooms at Hotel Altmünchen by Blattl feel authentically Munich without being kitschy about it. You won’t find lederhosen hanging on the walls, but there’s definitely a warm, Bavarian sensibility in the design choices. The spaces are well-thought-out — not huge by any means, but cleverly arranged so you don’t feel cramped. What struck me most was the attention to comfort over flashiness, which actually makes perfect sense for a three-star property. The beds are genuinely comfortable, and the bathrooms are modern enough to feel fresh while still fitting the building’s character.
Breakfast Worth Waking Up For
You know what surprised me? The breakfast spread here is actually impressive for a hotel this size. They’ve got the continental basics covered, sure, but they also cater to pretty much every dietary preference you can think of — vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free options are all there on the buffet. It’s not just token gestures either; they clearly put thought into making sure everyone finds something they’ll actually enjoy. The coffee is solid (important in a city where café culture runs deep), and honestly, starting your day here before heading out to explore Munich just feels right.
Why Guests Love It
Hotel Altmünchen by Blattl works because it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. This is a well-run, three-star hotel that understands its strengths — prime location, genuine hospitality, and solid fundamentals executed well. The 8.0 rating reflects exactly what you’d hope: consistent quality without any nasty surprises. If you’re looking for a place that puts you right in the middle of Munich’s magic while treating you like a person rather than just another booking, this is your spot. It’s the kind of place where you’ll actually want to come back, not just because it’s practical, but because it feels like home base for exploring one of Germany’s most captivating cities.
Hotels near me in Munich deliver easy walks to Marienplatz, the English Garden, and the Viktualienmarkt.

Guest Reviews
Excellent location made it easy to walk to see the best of Munich. Close to transport links. Breakfast was very good and staff extremely friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: Tea and coffee facilities in room would have been nice and a fridge would have been an advantage.
Staff very helpful and friendly, location is near the main attractions of old city and transport links.
The stay was great!
What could be improved: The only thing I missed was having cappuccino in the morning.
Clean & tidy room a short walk from train station & Christmas market. Delicious cinnamon rolls just down the street for breakfast.
Perfect location. Very central and in walking distance of everything.
What could be improved: It was very expensive. I assume that's because it was over the October Fest time.
Location and price
What could be improved: Towels. Not enough
The staff at Hotel Altmunchen were very accommodating, and the location is amazing for seeing the old town. and we were able to get into our room early, which was great after a long day of travelling. Our bed was really comfortable and the bathroom clean. The breakfast selection was good too and set us up each day. We also really appreciated being able to get a beer at the end of each day.
What could be improved: Everything was really good, the only thing that would have been a bonus would have been if there was a kettle in the room, I know I could have asked for a cup of tea at anytime, but I like an early morning cup when I'm in my pyjamas!
Hotel location is just around the corner from a small Christmas market. The rooms are a perfect size and the staff were very helpful. If you ate headed to Munich for Christmas markets, I would highly recommend this hotel.
What could be improved: Onsite breakfast was a little pricey. So we went to the local coffee shops. Of which there are lots.
Close to everything. Not very far from the train station.. Was quiet. Breakfast was quite delicious
What could be improved: I could only think a little less expensive breakfast for guests.
Location was great. Closed to city center. Staff were nice, especially the mature lady (sorry I didn’t get her name) super nice, friendly, kind and helpful.
What could be improved: The heater in the room didn’t work well at night and kicked in strong in the morning, which we didn’t needed it.
