First Impressions

Walking into the Holiday Inn Munich – Leuchtenbergring by IHG, I was honestly surprised by how polished everything felt for what I’d expected to be a standard business hotel. The lobby has this modern, clean aesthetic that doesn’t try too hard — you know what I mean? It’s the kind of place where you immediately feel like you can relax after a long travel day. Here’s the thing about Au-Haidhausen — it’s actually one of Munich‘s best-kept secrets for travelers who want to feel like locals. You’re close enough to the city center (about 15 minutes by U-Bahn) but far enough away from the tourist crowds that you can grab a proper Bavarian breakfast at a neighborhood café without fighting for a table. The Leuchtenbergring area has this authentic residential vibe, and I loved walking around in the evenings. Couples seem to really get this location — I mean, there’s something romantic about staying in a real Munich neighborhood rather than right in the thick of things.

The Room

My room was exactly what you’d hope for from a four-star property — spacious, well-designed, and actually functional. The bed was properly comfortable (not too soft, not too firm), and the bathroom had one of those rainfall showers that made me want to stay in longer than I should have. What I really appreciated were the little touches: good lighting for reading, plenty of outlets near the desk, and blackout curtains that actually worked. The air conditioning was quiet too, which honestly makes such a difference when you’re trying to sleep off jet lag.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast buffet here is genuinely impressive — and I say that as someone who’s usually pretty skeptical about hotel breakfast spreads. Fresh pastries, proper German breads, local cheeses and meats, plus all the international options you’d expect. I found myself going back for seconds most mornings, which doesn’t happen often. The restaurant serves solid dinner options too, though I’d recommend venturing into the neighborhood for authentic Bavarian food at least once during your stay.

There’s something to be said for a hotel that gets the basics absolutely right while adding thoughtful extras. The private parking is a huge plus if you’re driving (and not easy to find in Munich), the location gives you that local experience without sacrificing convenience, and the service feels personal rather than corporate.   It was in a great location for a meeting I had. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was quiet and the temperature was easy to adjust to be comfortable. Car parking was generous and reasonable for the location. Breakfast was good. Love it when I find tea and coffee making facilities in a German hotel.
  
  What could be improved: Slight smell of smoke in our room and of drains in the bathroom.

  Perfect location next to the railway station S-Bahn and close to the centre. Rooms comfy enough and tidy. Bed/Mattress very comfy. Breakfast various selections and good quality. Good parking garage with possibility to park the car until 18hrs of the departure day.

  Their room was modern, clean, and big enough. They offered a very nice breakfast with a good selection. The location was close to the Christmas markets which was one of the main reasons for our visit. We appreciated how clean the facility was and the beds were comfortable. They accommodated our request to have two rooms close together. There is a tram station very close to the hotel

  Location was excellent for transport links. Few nice places close by to get breakfast, burger etc. Staff all spoke English and were super helpful.
  
  What could be improved: The breakfast was just ok and expensive for what you got. Dinner facilities were very limited – really just a sandwich sitting at the bar. Sandwich was lovely, but I had gone expecting a full restaurant and we would have eaten before we'd gone back to the hotel if I'd realised.
