You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from the Hampton By Hilton Munich City West when I first rolled up – it’s got that standard chain hotel look from the outside, and honestly, 3-star properties can be hit or miss. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The location is pretty solid if you’re trying to avoid the tourist circus of the city center but still want decent access to everything. You’re in the Laim district, which sounds fancy but it’s really just a regular Munich neighborhood where actual people live – and that’s kind of the charm of it.

The rooms are what you’d expect from Hampton, but they’ve clearly put some thought into the details here. Everything feels fresh and well-maintained, which I can’t say about every Hilton property I’ve stayed at (and trust me, I’ve been in a few questionable ones). The beds are properly comfortable – none of that rock-hard European mattress nonsense – and the bathrooms actually have decent water pressure, which is honestly half the battle in Germany sometimes. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re still technically in the city. I mean, you’ll hear the occasional tram, but it’s more of a gentle reminder that civilization exists rather than the constant honking you get closer to Marienplatz.

Here’s the thing that made me actually like this place: the breakfast situation is legitimately good. Not just “acceptable hotel breakfast” good, but actually worth waking up for. They’ve got proper German bread (obviously), but also decent coffee that doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting around since yesterday, and the staff seems to actually care about keeping things fresh. Plus, check-in was refreshingly smooth – no weird upselling attempts or confusing explanations about city taxes that usually make you feel like you need a law degree to book a hotel room. The 7.8 rating makes sense to me because while it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury touches, it just does everything right without any major annoyances. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need, especially if you’re planning to spend most of your time exploring the city anyway. It’s the kind of place where you can actually get a good night’s sleep and start your day without any drama, which honestly feels like a minor miracle in the hotel world these days.

  The location is great, lots of public transportation around! Breakfast is tasty, room are spacious, beds are comfortable. Staff is really helpful.

  Cleanliness, facilities, breakfast and room size were especially very good. The location is also very nice but not in the middle of city centre. But it is fairly okay and easy to reach by using S-bahn or walk in 30 mins.
