Overview

First Impressions

Walking into gambino hotel WERKSVIERTEL, you immediately get that modern industrial vibe that perfectly matches its Berg am Laim neighborhood. This three-star property sits right in the heart of Munich‘s emerging creative district, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better for exploring both the traditional and contemporary sides of the city. The lobby has this clean, minimalist design with concrete elements and warm wood accents β€” it’s unpretentious but definitely stylish.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s what I love about this spot β€” you’re in Munich but away from the tourist chaos of Marienplatz. Berg am Laim has transformed into this cool area where old industrial buildings house art studios, trendy cafes, and tech companies. The Werksviertel district itself is fascinating to wander through, especially if you’re into urban development and creative spaces. You can easily reach the city center by public transport, but honestly, there’s enough happening in the immediate area to keep you busy. The parking situation is actually great here too, which anyone who’s driven in Munich will tell you is a rare blessing.

The Room Experience

My room was compact but smartly designed β€” no wasted space, everything you need within reach. The beds are comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathroom is modern with a good shower. What struck me was the attention to detail in the furnishings β€” simple but quality pieces that feel more expensive than what you’d expect from a three-star place. The windows are well-insulated too, so despite being in an active district, nights are surprisingly quiet.

Dining & Amenities

The hotel’s restaurant serves solid contemporary German cuisine with some international touches. I mean, it’s not going to win any Michelin stars, but the food is fresh and well-prepared. Breakfast has a good selection β€” proper coffee, fresh bread, local meats and cheeses. What I appreciated was that they source ingredients locally when possible, which adds a nice authentic touch to the meals. The staff here actually knows the neighborhood well and can point you toward hidden gems for dinner or drinks.

Why Guests Love It

You know what sets this place apart? It’s that sweet spot between affordability and quality that’s getting harder to find in Munich. Couples especially seem to love it here β€” and I can see why, given how the location offers both urban energy and romantic evening walks through the district’s converted industrial spaces. The 8.4 rating makes sense when you experience the combination of modern comfort, genuine local character, and staff who actually care about your stay. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, which is refreshing in a city where many hotels either go premium or budget-basic with nothing in between.

Very well thought through - it has all you need for a short stay. The design and materials are really nice.

A value for money, indeed. Booked the hotel because they got special deal- 160 eur instead of the normal price of 300! And Iβ€˜m impressed with the ambience of the room, and also the staffβ€˜s eagerness to contact me via whatsapp, multiple times, to make sure that I have everything needed during my stay. Keep up the good work!

What could be improved: Too bad they don’t have any breakfast service πŸ˜‚

The location of the hotel is perfect. It’s only a few steps away from the metro/train station and it is easy to get anywhere you want. There are also many places for food aroubd, either smaller takeaways or restaurants to enjoy local and international cuisine. Staff was friendly and if there was a problem, it was quickly solved.

What could be improved: The lobby area seems somewhat empty and doesn’t really invite to spend time there. There is no bar or restaurant in the hotel itself. A matter of personal taste and preferences, but the shower and bathroom were separate and the shower has a glass door. So if your roommate wants to wash hands, go to the bathroom or just exit the room, they will definitely see you showering. The room is also very small, has only blinding curtains but not the day curtains, which takes away the feeling of privacy as everything from the room can be seen from the street and opposite buildings.
