You know what struck me first about the FOUR Munich Neue Messe? It’s got this refreshingly modern vibe that doesn’t try too hard to be flashy – which honestly is perfect for Munich, where understated elegance tends to win over flashy any day. The hotel sits in the Messestadt Riem area, and I’ll be straight with you – this isn’t the cobblestone, beer hall Munich that most tourists picture. But that’s actually what I ended up loving about it.

The location is sort of brilliant if you think about it. You’re right by the trade fair grounds (hence the name), which means the neighborhood has this interesting mix of business travelers and locals who work in the newer parts of the city. The U-Bahn connection is solid – you can get into the city center in about 20 minutes, and there’s something nice about coming back to a quieter area after a day of navigating tourist crowds in Marienplatz. The rooms have that clean, contemporary German design thing down pat, and I mean that in the best way possible. Everything just works – the shower pressure is excellent, the beds are actually comfortable (not always a given in business hotels), and the soundproofing is good enough that you won’t hear your neighbor’s early morning conference calls.

What really sets this place apart is how it handles the business hotel thing without being soulless about it. The staff genuinely seems to get that not everyone staying here is just passing through for a trade show – some of us actually want to explore Munich properly. They’re good with restaurant recommendations that go beyond the obvious tourist traps, and the concierge pointed me toward this fantastic little Italian place about ten minutes away that I never would have found otherwise. The breakfast spread is solid (proper German bread, thank goodness), and the lobby area actually feels like somewhere you’d want to hang out rather than just rush through. I spent a rainy afternoon there with my laptop and didn’t feel like I was camping out inappropriately. The 8.0 rating makes sense – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it does everything well without any real weak spots. If you’re looking for that picture-perfect Alpine hotel experience, this isn’t your spot. But if you want a reliable base that’s well-connected, comfortable, and doesn’t cost a fortune, especially during Oktoberfest season when everything closer to the center gets absolutely bonkers with pricing, the FOUR is definitely worth considering.

  What could be improved: Parking too expensive. Shower not working properly. One large blanket for two people. Bedside tables kind a behind the bed and too low, which was a bit inconvenient.
