Hotel Description
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from the Excelsior by Geisel when I first pulled up – the name sounds a bit stuffy, honestly – but this place actually surprised me in the best way. It’s got that solid 4-star vibe without trying too hard, if that makes sense. The lobby has this warm, understated elegance that feels more like a well-appointed living room than some generic hotel space. Check-in was refreshingly smooth (no unnecessary upselling), and the staff seemed genuinely happy to see guests rather than just going through the motions.
What really won me over, though, were all those little details that show someone actually thought about what travelers need. The rooms have proper reading lights – like, actual good lighting where you can read without squinting – and the beds are that perfect firmness where you don’t sink in but don’t feel like you’re sleeping on concrete either. The bathrooms are spacious enough that you’re not bumping elbows with your partner, and they’ve got those rainfall showerheads that actually work (you’d be surprised how often hotels mess this up). I mean, these aren’t revolutionary features, but when you’re staying somewhere for several nights, these things matter way more than fancy marble or whatever.
The whole place has this quietly confident atmosphere – it knows it’s good without being flashy about it. Breakfast service runs until a reasonable hour, which is clutch if you’re not an early riser, and the restaurant actually serves food that locals eat too, not just tourist fare. I noticed the housekeeping is thorough without being intrusive; they somehow managed to clean around my stuff without making it look like they’d rearranged everything. Honestly, with an 8.5 rating, I was expecting maybe some rough edges, but whatever points they’re losing probably come down to personal preference rather than actual problems. The whole experience just felt… effortless, I guess? Like they’ve figured out how to run a hotel properly without making a big production of it. If you want somewhere reliable that’ll take care of the basics really well and let you focus on why you’re actually traveling, this is your spot.

The staff are very welcoming and personable. I should highlight the Front Office Manager who treats you like a friend not a customer – wonder approach.
