Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Europäischer Hof? The name sounds way fancier than the place actually is – and honestly, that’s exactly why I ended up loving it. This 3-star spot has this refreshingly unpretentious vibe that’s become pretty rare these days. When I walked in, my first thought was “okay, this feels like an actual European hotel,” not some corporate chain trying to fake that old-world charm.
The lobby has that lived-in quality – I mean, the furniture’s obviously been there for years, but it’s the good kind of worn where you can tell people have actually relaxed in those chairs. The staff behind the desk seemed genuinely surprised when I asked about local restaurant recommendations, which made me think most guests probably just stick to the tourist spots. Big mistake, because they pointed me toward this little place around the corner that I never would’ve found otherwise. What really impressed me was how quiet my room stayed, even though you’re right in the thick of things. I was expecting typical city hotel noise, but apparently the old building’s thick walls actually work in your favor – who knew?
The rating of 8.2 makes perfect sense once you’ve stayed there. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does, it does well. The rooms are clean and comfortable without any unnecessary bells and whistles, the heating actually works (always a gamble in older European buildings), and the shower pressure was surprisingly decent. I actually found myself appreciating the straightforward approach – sometimes you just want a good night’s sleep and a solid base for exploring, not a resort experience. The breakfast was simple but fresh, and they didn’t make a big production out of check-in or check-out. If you’re looking for Instagram-worthy amenities or trendy design elements, this probably isn’t your place. But if you want to feel like you’re staying somewhere with actual character, where the staff knows the neighborhood and you’re not paying extra for marble everything, Europäischer Hof hits that sweet spot perfectly.
Hotels in Munich offer visitors the opportunity to stay in the heart of this Alpine metropolis, with easy access to castles, museums, and traditional German experiences.

Well located boutique style hotel directly across from Munich train station. Excellent breakfast, pleasant, helpful staff
What could be improved: No complaints
Hotel doesn’t look much from the outside but rooms are clean and spacious (if a little dated) and the staff are very friendly and eager to help. Really good breakfast buffet as well!
What could be improved: Rooms/bathrooms could do with an update but all were very clean and had no issues.
Staff were so accommodating. Rooms are spacious and spotless. Great bathroom. Super breakfast with lots of variety.
What could be improved: Nothing really. Coffee and tea facilities would have been nice in the room but then you can’t have it all.
The location was excellent. It was close to the train station and the downtown area was within a short walking distance. Breakfast was good with many options available. The room was clean with a a small fridge.
What could be improved: The only complaint I have is that unless the shower head is centered in the tub the water makes its way to the bathroom floor even with the shower curtain tucked in. That was really my only complaint.
Excellent location for rail travellers and we had a surprise upgrade to a very large and comfy room. Excellent breakfast included and an easy walk to our favourite Augustiner Keller for supper.
