I’ll be honest – when I first walked into the Empress Boutique Hotel, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a 3-star place with that kind of name. But you know what? Sometimes these smaller boutique spots surprise you in ways the big chains never do. The lobby has this sort of old-world charm that feels deliberately curated rather than accidentally dated, if that makes sense. There’s something about the lighting and the way they’ve arranged the furniture that makes you want to actually sit down and have a conversation instead of just rushing through.

What really struck me during my stay was how much thought they’d put into the details that most places completely overlook. The room keys are these heavy, substantial things that feel satisfying in your hand – I mean, it’s a small thing, but it sets the tone. The rooms themselves are compact but smartly designed, with enough storage that you’re not living out of your suitcase the entire time. Actually, the bathroom surprised me the most – they’d managed to fit in a proper shower with decent water pressure, which honestly is half the battle at this price point. The walls are thick enough that you’re not hearing every conversation from next door, though if you’re a light sleeper, you might catch some street noise in the early morning hours.

The staff here really makes the difference though. They’ve got that sweet spot where they’re helpful without being hovering, you know? When I mentioned I was looking for a good coffee spot nearby, the front desk guy didn’t just point me toward the hotel’s own café – he actually walked me to the window and pointed out this little local place two blocks over that locals actually use. That’s the kind of insider knowledge you just don’t get at bigger hotels. Check-in was smooth, no weird surprises with fees or policies, and they were genuinely flexible when I needed to adjust my checkout time. The whole place has this relaxed, lived-in feeling that makes you think the owners actually care about the experience rather than just maximizing occupancy rates. With a 7.9 rating, it’s clearly hitting the mark for most people – and I can see why. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does offer feels authentic and well-executed.

  The room was huge!
  
  What could be improved: There were some stains on my bedsheet and the breakfast was very basic. The walls were a bit thin.

  Very quiet area. Very good breakfast.
  Room was quite spacious and very clean. Restaurants very close within walking distance. Hospital very close, our main reason for choosing this hotel.

  It was really good! Our check in was very easy and the staff were friendly. The room was also welcoming and much larger than I originally expected. Really enjoyed our stay here and only a 5 minute walk from underground station.
