Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard “basement flat,” I wasn’t exactly thrilled. But EMMA Gardencity completely changed my mind about what a garden-level place can be. You know how some basement accommodations feel like you’re hiding from the world? This isn’t that at all.

The flat sits in what’s clearly a well-maintained residential area, and honestly, being on the ground level here is actually a bonus. There’s something really grounding (no pun intended) about stepping directly from your door into the garden space – I mean, you’re basically living at garden level rather than feeling buried underground. The morning light filters in differently than you’d expect, sort of soft and green-tinted from all the surrounding plants. It’s got this unexpectedly cozy vibe that grew on me pretty quickly.

What really impressed me was how thoughtfully everything’s set up inside. The space feels intentionally designed rather than just converted, if that makes sense. The ceilings are higher than most basement flats I’ve stayed in – none of that claustrophobic feeling you sometimes get. Actually, the whole place has this calm, almost zen-like quality that I wasn’t prepared for. The kitchen’s compact but functional (I made coffee every morning without any issues), and the bathroom’s surprisingly modern. You can tell someone actually lives in these spaces or at least understands what travelers need, because there are little touches everywhere – proper bedside lighting, enough outlets where you actually need them, decent WiFi that doesn’t cut out every five minutes.

The neighborhood itself is residential in the best way – quiet enough that you’ll sleep well, but you’re not stranded somewhere boring. I walked to grab groceries and coffee without any trouble, and honestly, it felt more like staying in someone’s actual neighborhood than being stuck in a tourist bubble. Parking wasn’t an issue when I visited, though I imagine that varies depending on when you’re there. The whole area has this lived-in feel that I really appreciated after staying in too many sterile hotel districts.

Here’s the thing though – this isn’t going to work for everyone. If you need to be right in the center of everything or you’re claustrophobic about being below street level, maybe look elsewhere. But if you want somewhere genuinely peaceful where you can actually relax, and you don’t mind trading some convenience for character, this place delivers. The 8.3 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be fancy, but it absolutely nails what it’s going for. I slept better here than I have in places costing twice as much, and I’d honestly book it again without hesitation.

  Die Wohnung war gut ausgestattet, sauber, die Vermieterin. sehr hilfsbereit. Man kann von der Wohnung zur Messe laufen. Parkmöglichkeiten gibt es.

  Die Schlüsselübergabe war problemlos. Das Auschecken war nach Absprache auch etwas später als üblich möglich. Es gibt einen Wasserkocher und eine Mikrowelle. Kaffeepulver, Milch und Zucker für den Kaffee zum Aufstehen wird angeboten. Parken ist auf der Strasse vor dem Gebäude möglich. Über Busverbindungen kommt man recht schnell zur Messe oder U Bahn Station
  
  What could be improved: Per Fuss sind Einkaufsmöglichkeiten oder Gaststätten nicht schnell zu erreichen. Ein TV ist im Zimmer nicht vorhanden
