Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Eleganz im Herzen von Schwabing on Hiltenspergerstraße, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in unassuming packages. This little gem sits right in the sweet spot between Munich’s university district energy and the quieter residential charm that makes Maxvorstadt actually livable.

The thing about this hotel is that it gets the neighborhood perfectly. You’re literally a two-minute walk from all those buzzy cafés on Schellingstraße where students camp out with their laptops, but far enough from the main drag that you’re not dealing with street noise at night. I mean, Hiltenspergerstraße itself is pretty peaceful – mostly locals heading to the nearby Norma or walking their dogs. The staff here actually knows the area too, which is rarer than you’d think. When I asked about getting to Schwabing proper, they didn’t just point vaguely north – they told me exactly which tram stop to use and mentioned that the little bakery on the corner opens at 6:30 if I wanted fresh pretzels before heading out.

What really won me over was the attention to small things that matter when you’re actually staying somewhere, not just passing through. The rooms aren’t huge (this is Munich, after all), but they’re thoughtfully laid out with enough plugs near the bed and decent lighting for reading. The windows actually open – which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many hotels seal you in. On warmer evenings, you can hear the gentle hum of the neighborhood settling down, maybe some conversation drifting up from the sidewalk café tables down the street. The breakfast setup is simple but solid – proper German bread, local cheeses, and coffee that doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting around since yesterday. They’ve got this small courtyard area that catches the morning sun perfectly, and honestly, starting your day there with a coffee while planning your Munich adventures feels pretty ideal.

The location really shines when you realize how connected you are without being in the thick of tourist chaos. Maxvorstadt gives you that authentic Munich vibe – you’ll see more locals than visitors, which I always take as a good sign. You can walk to the university area when you want that youthful energy, stroll toward Schwabing when you’re feeling fancy, or hop on public transport to reach the city center in about fifteen minutes. Plus, there’s actually street parking nearby if you’re brave enough to drive in Munich (though honestly, you probably don’t need to).

I keep coming back to how this place just feels… right. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, but it’s doing everything it should do really well. For the price point and the genuine neighborhood feel, it’s exactly what I’d want in a Munich base – comfortable, authentic, and run by people who clearly care about getting the details right.

  This was a modern and clean apartment in a cute neighborhood in Munich. The apartment was very spacious and comfortable, and was perfect for our large group of travellers. The neighborhood was quiet and had nice shops all around. It was easy to get to the center of town, as well. Highly recommend!

  What could be improved: There is air conditioning which made us uncomfortable. The lack of the air conditioning was not mentioned prior to our booking. We are very very frustrated with the apartment and hot temperature inside the apartment. We could not sleep 2 hrs in a raw without waking up due to hot weather. Also, we checked in at 7:30 PM where we found the cleaner was still cleaning the apartment and was not ready for us. We had to wait for 15 minutes outside till we were allowed to enter. The customer service is sucks and very bad. They did not do anything for the air conditioning and ignored all of our calls and messages. We DONOT RECOMMEND THIS APARTMENT AT ALL. The coffee machine was not even cleaned from previous tenants as shown in the attached photo. All mattresses were single mattresses so it is not proper for a couple. Lastly, the location is sucks and we had to take a taxi even for buying water or coffee. Nothing close by and it is located in a dead area.

  Wunderschöne & ganz neue Unterkunft, sehr chic & luxuriös eingerichtet, Besonders gefallen haben uns die großen Schlafzimmer mit den bequemen Betten, die tolle Küche und die stylischen Badezimmer.
  Super Ausstattung – als wir die Spielesammlung entdeckt haben, hatten wir nach dem Essen noch einen ungeplanten Spieleabend 🙂
  Tolle Lage direkt am Josephsplatz mitten in Schwabing mit guter öffentlicher Anbindung. Mit der U-Bahn kommt man schnell zum Marienplatz.
