Eddy’s Rest & Relax – Neuhausen

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Eddy’s Rest & Relax when I first pulled up to this Neuhausen spot, but honestly, it’s one of those places that just gets the basics really, really right. The name pretty much tells you everything – this isn’t trying to be some flashy boutique hotel, and that’s actually what makes it work so well. It’s tucked into a quieter part of Neuhausen, which I mean, if you know the area, you’ll appreciate how it manages to feel residential without being completely cut off from everything. The building itself has that solid, unpretentious Swiss vibe – clean lines, nothing fancy, but you can tell someone cares about keeping it up.

What really struck me was how the staff seemed to actually remember guests’ names after like, day two. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward (none of that “let me tell you about our seventeen amenities” speech), and they had this little area near the front desk with local hiking maps that were actually current – not those faded tourist office ones from 2019. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star place, but here’s the thing: the beds are genuinely comfortable, not just hotel-marketing comfortable. I’m talking about that sweet spot where the mattress has some give but doesn’t leave you feeling like you’re sinking into quicksand. The bathrooms are compact but well-designed – whoever planned the layout actually thought about where you’d want to hang your towel and put your toiletries.

The neighborhood itself is pretty perfect if you’re the type who likes to wander around and stumble onto good stuff. There’s this little bakery about two blocks down that does incredible gipfeli in the mornings, and you’ll find yourself walking past locals heading to work rather than dodging tour groups. Parking was surprisingly painless – they’ve got a small lot behind the building, and street parking isn’t the nightmare it can be in other parts of Zurich. I stayed there during what turned out to be a pretty busy weekend, and while you could hear some activity in the hallways, it never felt chaotic or disruptive. The walls are thick enough that you’re not getting a play-by-play of your neighbor’s phone calls, which honestly, after some of the paper-thin places I’ve stayed, felt like luxury. That 8.3 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s going to deliver exactly what it promises, and sometimes that’s worth more than all the fancy touches in the world.
