Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Drei Loewen on Schillerstrasse, you immediately get that classic Munich vibe — it’s one of those four-star hotels that feels authentically German without trying too hard. The building has character, honestly, and you can tell this isn’t some cookie-cutter chain property. I mean, the name literally means “Three Lions,” which gives you a hint about the traditional atmosphere you’re stepping into. The hotel maintains its heritage while offering modern comforts that appeal to discerning travelers.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about staying in Ludwigsvorstadt — you’re actually in Munich proper, not stuck out in some business district. The location really is excellent (couples seem to agree, rating it over 8 out of 10), and I can see why. You’re walking distance to the main train station, which sounds touristy but is actually super practical when you’re hauling luggage or want to explore Bavaria on day trips. The neighborhood has that lived-in feel where locals grab their morning coffee, but you’re still close enough to Marienplatz that you won’t spend half your day on public transport. This central positioning makes it ideal for both business and leisure guests.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was comfortable in that no-nonsense German way. Don’t expect flashy design or Instagram-worthy moments, but everything works exactly as it should. The beds are proper firm (which I actually prefer), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. You know what impressed me? The attention to practical details — good lighting for reading, decent storage, and windows that actually open properly for fresh air. Each room is thoughtfully appointed with quality furnishings and functional layouts.
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast setup here is honestly one of the better hotel spreads I’ve encountered in Munich. They do both continental and buffet style, which means you can grab something quick or really settle in for a proper German breakfast. The selection hits all the right notes — fresh bread (this is Germany, after all), local cheeses, and coffee that doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting around since yesterday. I found myself lingering over breakfast more than usual, partly because the dining area has this relaxed morning atmosphere that doesn’t rush you out the door. The restaurant staff ensures quality service throughout your stay.
Why Guests Love It
Look, Drei Loewen isn’t trying to be the fanciest place in town, and that’s exactly why it works so well. It’s the kind of hotel where everything just functions smoothly. The staff knows Munich and can point you toward the good beer gardens (not just the obvious tourist ones), and the whole place has this reliable, unpretentious quality that makes you feel like you’re staying somewhere real. For the price point and location, it delivers exactly what most travelers actually need — a solid base for exploring Munich without any unnecessary fuss or inflated expectations.

It’s close to the metro station Hauptbanhof / City Center, and 15 min walk from Flixbus Station.
The breakfast is nice, too.
What could be improved: Good location. Just hope the city government can improve the sanitation on the streets nearby.
Great breakfast
What could be improved: it was quite cold in the room
Breakfast was very nice. Location is great but parking might be a problem if there is no available spaces in garage. Spacious rooms and well equipped. Free cancelation.
Short walk from central station, big comfortable bed. Desk in room. Well heated.
What could be improved: It didn’t bother me, but on the street there are several strip clubs.
The room is very comfortable and quiet. Breakfast is so good. Location is perfect to go to the city center on foot.
What could be improved: There was not soap in the bathroom. The mattress could be better.
