Hotel Description

You know what? The Classik Hotel Martinshof caught me completely off guard. I mean, when you hear “3-star hotel near the Messe,” you’re probably thinking basic business traveler stuff – which, honestly, this place sort of is – but there’s something genuinely charming about how they’ve done it. The building itself has this old-school German character that actually feels authentic, not like they’re trying too hard to be quaint for tourists.

The location is pretty smart if you know Munich at all. You’re close enough to the exhibition center that you won’t be stressed about getting to meetings or events, but far enough out that you’re not stuck in some soulless convention district. I actually walked into the city center a couple times – takes about 25 minutes if you’re up for it, or the public transport connections are solid. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. Sure, you’ll hear some traffic during the day, but nothing like what you’d deal with closer to the Hauptbahnhof.

The rooms themselves are… well, they’re not going to blow you away, but they’re thoughtfully put together. Clean lines, decent space, and – this matters more than you’d think – really good blackout curtains. The beds are surprisingly comfortable for this category, though I did notice the pillows are pretty firm (typical German style, honestly). Breakfast was better than expected too. Not fancy, but proper German bread, good coffee, and they actually had decent scrambled eggs instead of that weird rubbery stuff you sometimes get. The staff seems to genuinely care about the place, which shows in little details like how quickly they respond to requests and the fact that common areas actually stay tidy throughout the day. I’d say if you’re looking for something reliable without paying city center prices – especially if you’re here for trade fair stuff – this place makes a lot of sense. That 8.1 rating feels about right to me.

  Breakfast was good. In a cozy 'old town' with a traditional church across the road. Take away the cars, and you'd think you had gone back a century.

  The place was absolutely beautiful. Shower was pristine. It’s close to Riem station.
  
  What could be improved: Only things to work on are: There was no bin liner so we felt bad putting rubbish in the bin. The fan in the bathroom didn’t work or at least we couldn’t figure out how to turn it on. And the inside of the kettle hadn’t been cleaned in a while as there was a lot of build up

  It had a very warm, cozy atmosphere. The room was clean, and facilities were good too.
  
  What could be improved: The location is quite far from the city center and is only served by a single subway line, which runs approximately every 20 minutes.
  
  The hotel also seems to have very limited staff. For example, the entrance requires either a passcode or a key card, but no one was available to open the door until a kind guest helped us. Our room was on the second floor, yet no staff offered to assist with our luggage. Given that they were expecting guests, there should have at least been someone at the front desk to help with check-in and luggage.

  It was east to get into city center, close to the train station. Room was clean, had a window into a cute courtyard. Enjoyed the on-site hotel restaurant.
  
  What could be improved: The roof pitch in one side of the room meant you couldn’t stand up on that side. Had to crawl into bed. Bathroom was updated but small, which is not unusual in Europe. Hotel restaurant was expensive, but the food was delicious.
