You know what hit me first about Bob W Münchner Freiheit? The name actually makes perfect sense once you’re there – it’s right in the heart of Schwabing, literally steps from the Münchner Freiheit U-Bahn station. I mean, you pop out of the subway and boom, you’re basically in Munich’s creative quarter with all these cafes and boutiques that locals actually hang out at, not just tourist traps.

The hotel itself has this interesting vibe going on – it’s got that modern, minimalist thing happening but without feeling cold or sterile. Honestly, it reminds me of those design hotels you see in Berlin, where everything’s been thought through but doesn’t scream “look at me, I’m fancy.” The rooms are smart about space (which, let’s face it, matters in Munich where everything’s a bit compact), and there’s this attention to detail that you notice after a day or two. Like, the lighting actually works for reading, and the shower pressure – well, it’s one of those small victories that makes your whole trip better. The 4-star rating feels about right; it’s polished and comfortable without the stuffiness you sometimes get at higher-end places.

What really sold me on this spot was the neighborhood situation. You’re close enough to walk to the English Garden when you want that green space fix, but you’re also surrounded by Schwabing’s restaurant scene – and I’m talking about places where you’ll hear more German than English, which is always a good sign. The Leopold Street area is right there with all these bars and eateries that stay busy until late, though the hotel itself stays pretty quiet (good windows, I guess). Getting around is ridiculously easy since you’ve got direct U-Bahn access, so whether you want to hit Marienplatz or venture out to the Olympic Park, you’re connected. The 8.2 rating seems fair – it’s the kind of place that does what it promises really well, maybe just missing that extra spark that would push it into the 9s. But honestly? Sometimes that’s exactly what you want when you’re exploring a city like Munich.

  Lovely neighbourhood and central to where my event was. Room absolutely adequate for my needs.

  The room was functional, and the essentials were there. The hotel is located in a convenient part of town with public transport near by, and many attractions within walking distance (subject to personal ability and preference).
  
  What could be improved: There was no space for luggage in the room, which made things a little tight, but for a weekender, it's fine, especially if you do not intend to spend much time there. Self-check-in took some getting used to, especially since the front door opening function did not always work – luckily, we could always walk through the cafe/restaurant on the ground floor, which also served as a nice spot for a night cap.

  Great location, well connected and in a great residential area. The room is spacious and clean and love that it has a yoga mat

  Breakfast, for us was self-paid. It's always in the adjoining French Bistro. Always very good…. also very good but a tad small were the cappuccinos. The rooms are pretty great. Our TV didn't work late one evening and the guy at the desk did everything possible to find batteries for the remote. It graciously brought it to the room when he found batteries. Excellent service.
  
  What could be improved: My one complaint is a lack of any storage whatsoever. No doubt, it's part of how they can provide a nice room, in a good part of town for the price.

  Room was really well designed with great interior design features, a cute sofa, very comfortable bed with perfect pillows and TV. We were using this stay after a long period of travel and really enjoyed one night decompressing and watching Netflix. The location came well recommended from a local friend with a superb restaurant located just below. Without a reservation we arrived late in the evening on a Friday and managed to immediately be seated for the most wonderful evening dinner. We also had breakfast there the next morning which was equally brilliant. The staff were lovely with easy check in and check out.
  
  What could be improved: unfortunately there are no coffee or tea facilities within the room which was a disappointment, added to which the room had not been properly cleaned before our arrival. The hand cream was empty, and the vanity kit had been used by someone before us.

  Clean very modern hotel. Very centrally located in the cool upscale Schwabing area of Munich. Melanie, the receptionist, was super helpful and friendly. Next door boasts a truly gourmet french restaurant le Petite Fritz, which also makes an exceptional breakfast for the hotel.
  
  What could be improved: No fridge, no water heater or coffee maker, no safe. Its a bit of a stripper, but it's super well designed
