Hotel Description
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Boardinghouse Henschelstraße when I first walked up to it – the name alone sounds pretty no-nonsense, right? But honestly, this place surprised me in the best way possible. It’s one of those 3-star spots that punches way above its weight, and I mean that. The moment you step inside, there’s this immediately welcoming vibe that feels more like staying at a well-run guesthouse than some sterile hotel chain. The lobby has this warm, slightly vintage feel – not trying too hard to be trendy, just comfortable in its own skin.
What really struck me was how the staff actually seemed to care about making your stay work. I arrived a bit early (you know how flights are) and instead of the usual “check-in isn’t until 3pm” routine, they found a way to get me sorted. The rooms themselves are surprisingly spacious for what you’re paying – clean lines, decent lighting, and the kind of practical touches that show someone was thinking about real guests, not just photo shoots. The kitchenette situation is actually useful, unlike those joke setups you sometimes get where you can barely boil water. I made coffee there every morning and it felt… normal? Like I could actually live there for a week without going crazy.
Here’s the thing though – this isn’t a place where you’re going to get pampered with fancy spa services or whatever. It’s more about solid execution of the basics, which honestly I prefer most of the time. The beds are comfortable (firm but not like sleeping on concrete), the WiFi actually works throughout the building, and I never had any of those weird hotel quirks like mystery stains or shower pressure that barely exists. The neighborhood is pretty quiet in the evenings but close enough to the action that you’re not stuck taking expensive taxis everywhere. I walked to several good restaurants and there’s a little market nearby where you can grab actual groceries if you want to use that kitchenette. Parking was straightforward too – no hunting around for blocks trying to find a spot. The whole experience just felt… sensible? Like someone designed it for people who travel regularly and know what matters. That 8.6 rating makes total sense to me because this is the kind of place you’d book again without hesitation, even if you’re not going to write poems about it later.

This was my second stay here, and all the reasons for my earlier visit remain valid: good location close to an S-Bahn station, clean and large rooms, good facilities, including a coffee shop on site, though the timings may not suit everyone. A bonus that I discovered this time was a supermarket and post office right across the road. This was very helpful in sending some material back to my office, and avoiding paying for excess luggage to the airline on my return flight. All in all, a very pleasant stay.
What could be improved: This place is not suitable if you expect hotel-like services. Many of the options are self-service, including the coffee dispenser and clothes washer / dryer. However, this should be clear before booking, and it wasn't an issue for me during my stay. For non German speaking guests, the staff mostly speak in German, but it's not a big prolem if you have Google translate!Unnikrishnan from India – 17 November 2024 (9/10)

Having an equiped kitchen is a very nice advantage that I appreciated. I was also amazed how clean and new was the room. In addition, the location close to the grocery and to the metro station is perfect.
