You know what struck me first about the BEST WESTERN Hotel The K in Unterföhring? It’s one of those places that doesn’t try too hard to impress you, but somehow ends up doing exactly that. I mean, walking into the lobby, there’s this understated modern vibe – clean lines, decent lighting, nothing flashy but everything feels intentional. The kind of place where you can tell someone actually thought about the guest experience instead of just checking boxes.

The location is honestly pretty clever if you know the Munich area at all. Unterföhring sits just northeast of the city, and while that might sound like you’re stuck in the suburbs, it’s actually a sweet spot. You’re close enough to hop into Munich proper without dealing with all the tourist chaos and inflated city center prices. The S-Bahn connections are solid (locals will tell you the same), and there’s something nice about coming back to a quieter neighborhood after a day of sightseeing. Plus – and this is huge if you’re driving – parking here doesn’t make you want to cry, unlike most places closer to Marienplatz.

What really won me over though was how the staff seemed to genuinely know their stuff about the area. Not just the obvious tourist spots, but actual recommendations that felt personal. The woman at reception told me about this little bakery around the corner that I never would have found otherwise, and honestly, those morning pastries became a highlight of my stay. The rooms themselves hit that sweet spot of being properly comfortable without any unnecessary frills – good shower pressure (trust me, you notice when it’s bad), blackout curtains that actually work, and Wi-Fi that doesn’t make you question your life choices. I stayed on the third floor and it was surprisingly quiet, even with the windows cracked open. The beds are firm in that European way that either works for you or doesn’t – personally, I slept better than I expected. One small thing that bugged me was the elevator being a bit slow, but honestly, that’s the kind of minor complaint that only matters if everything else is working well. And it was. The breakfast spread was solid too – nothing fancy, but fresh bread, good coffee, and enough variety that you won’t get bored if you’re staying multiple days. An 8.5 rating feels about right for this place – it’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel you’ll ever see, but it nails the fundamentals and adds just enough local character to make your stay feel authentic rather than generic.

  Our stay was really amazing. The hotel and rooms were modern and clean. All of the staff was very kind, helpful and super nice. We also had very tasty breakfast. I would definetely recommend this hotel!

  What could be improved: Disappointing that for the price of the room, there is no water bottle in the room or a mini bar. We had to buy our own water and bring from outside. I find this quite cheap.

  Standout were the staff. All were very helpful and efficient. The purpose of the stay was for Electronica 24 so accommodation is always very scarce and pricing a premium. This was a good choice and ticked the boxes for our needs
