You know what struck me first about the Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor? It’s actually in Schwabing, which is honestly one of those neighborhoods that locals love but tourists somehow miss. I mean, everyone heads straight to Marienplatz or the beer halls, but this area has this whole different energy – more creative, less touristy, with actual Munich residents grabbing coffee at the corner spots.

The hotel itself feels like someone took a really sleek design concept and then made it actually livable. The lobby doesn’t try to intimidate you with marble and chandeliers (thank god), but it’s got this warm, almost residential vibe that makes sense once you realize you’re basically staying in what feels like Munich’s creative quarter. Check-in was refreshingly quick – none of that stuffy hotel ceremony – and honestly, the staff seemed to know their neighborhood inside out. When I asked about getting to the English Garden, the guy at the front desk didn’t just give me directions; he told me which entrance to use and mentioned that the morning hours are best if you want to avoid the crowds near the beer garden.

The rooms have this understated luxury thing down perfectly. Everything works the way it should (the shower pressure is actually great, which, let’s be real, can be hit or miss in European hotels), and the design feels contemporary without being cold. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night – Schwabing can get lively, especially on weekends, but the hotel seems well-insulated from the street noise. The minibar situation is pretty reasonable too, not those insane resort prices that make you feel guilty for grabbing a bottle of water. And the wifi? Fast enough that I could actually get work done when I needed to, which isn’t always a given. The whole place just feels like it was designed by people who actually travel and know what matters – good lighting for reading, enough outlets, a bathroom setup that makes sense when you’re dealing with jetlag and trying to get ready without waking your partner. It’s got that 5-star polish, but it doesn’t feel precious about it. The 8.8 rating makes total sense to me – it’s really well-executed without trying to be the flashiest place in the city.
