Hotel Description

You know what? The Alpen Hotel München surprised me. I’ll be honest – when I first walked in, I was expecting another generic business hotel, but there’s actually something genuinely Alpine about this place that doesn’t feel forced or touristy. The lobby has this warm wood paneling that reminds you you’re in Bavaria without hitting you over the head with lederhosen and beer steins everywhere.

The rooms are solid 4-star territory – nothing fancy, but everything works the way it should. I mean, the shower has proper pressure (which honestly can be hit or miss in Munich), and the beds are firm enough that you won’t wake up feeling like you wrestled a pretzel all night. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays, even on weekends when the city gets pretty lively. The windows do their job, and you’re not dealing with street noise or tram clanging at all hours. Speaking of trams – you’re actually well-connected here without being right in the chaos of Marienplatz, which I think is the sweet spot for Munich hotels. You can get around easily but still sleep peacefully.

The staff genuinely knows their stuff about the city, too. Not just the tourist trap recommendations, but real local insights. When I asked about finding good schnitzel that wasn’t overpriced tourist food, the desk clerk pointed me toward a neighborhood spot that locals actually go to – that kind of thing matters when you’re trying to experience a city properly. The breakfast is better than you’d expect from a mid-range hotel, with actual local breads and cheeses instead of just the standard continental spread. And here’s something small but important – they have proper coffee, not that watery hotel coffee that tastes like it was made yesterday. The 8.4 rating makes sense to me because this place delivers on the fundamentals without any major surprises, good or bad. It’s not going to be the highlight of your Munich trip, but it’s not going to disappoint you either, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want from a hotel.

  Lovely quirky room in super friendly and comfortable hotel.
  
  What could be improved: The hotel is very close to Central Station which is convenient but definitely not a particularly nice part of town. Not somewhere I would like to walk alone at night. An all female staff maintained a 24 hour reception and I was concerned for their safety at night.

  The room was clean and well equipped. The breakfast was good and complete. The staff were friendly, helpful and very nice. The location was easy to access by train and public transport.

  The staff was good.
  The location of the hotel was good, an easy walk to the main train station and metros. Also an easy walk to the Old Town center.

  We stayed at the suit. It is well decorated and comfortable. It is ver well located and very close to all metro & tram stations. We could even walk to all sights.
  
  What could be improved: The street at night is not that nice with lot of strangers. That’s why we preferred coming back with taxi on a late night.
