Alpen Hotel München Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Alpen Hotel München, you immediately get that cozy Alpine vibe mixed with urban sophistication — it’s honestly refreshing after dealing with the typical sterile chain hotels. The lobby has this warm, welcoming atmosphere that feels authentically Bavarian without being kitschy about it. You know what strikes me most? The staff actually remembers guests who come back, and trust me, there are quite a few repeat visitors here — more than I’ve seen at most places in Munich.

Location & Getting Around

The location on Adolf Kolping Strasse is pretty brilliant, actually. You’re in Ludwigsvorstadt, which puts you right in the thick of things without the chaos of Marienplatz crowds. I mean, couples absolutely love this spot (they rate it 8.8 out of 10), and I can see why — you can walk to the old town in about ten minutes, but you’re also close to the main train station when you need to catch those day trips to Neuschwanstein or Salzburg. The four-star rating feels spot-on for what you get here.

The Room Experience

My room had that perfect balance of traditional Bavarian touches and modern comfort — think dark wood furniture with crisp white linens and updated bathrooms. The windows actually open (which you’d be surprised how rare that is), and if you’re lucky enough to get one facing the courtyard, it’s surprisingly quiet for being so central. The beds are properly firm, and honestly, after long days exploring the city, that matters more than you might think. Many guests find the accommodations exceed expectations for this category.

Breakfast & Dining

Here’s where this place really shines — the breakfast spread is impressive for a hotel this size. They’ve got everything from traditional continental options to proper vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free choices, all laid out buffet-style. What I appreciate is that they don’t just throw together a sad corner of alternative options — the vegan selections are actually thoughtful and tasty. The coffee is strong (thank goodness), and they usually have local honey and jams that give you a real taste of Bavaria. The restaurant staff ensures every guest feels attended to during meal times.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t the fanciest hotel in Munich, but it gets the fundamentals absolutely right. The location score of 8.8 speaks for itself — you’re genuinely well-positioned to explore everything the city offers. What keeps people coming back (and I’ve chatted with several repeat guests) is the consistent quality and that personal touch you don’t always find in bigger properties. It’s the kind of place where you feel like a welcomed guest rather than just another number, and in a city that can sometimes feel overwhelming to navigate, that personal connection makes all the difference.

Reviews of Alpen Hotel München

  • Mark from Australia – 24 May 2025 (8/10)

Convenient to train station and friendly staff.

What could be improved: Neighbourhood was a little noisy and unclean. Didn’t feel safe arriving at night.

  • Kirsti from Finland – 21 May 2025 (9/10)

The hotel was easy to find, breakfast was very good.

  • Anne from Australia – 12 May 2025 (9/10)

Lovely quirky room in super friendly and comfortable hotel.

What could be improved: The hotel is very close to Central Station which is convenient but definitely not a particularly nice part of town. Not somewhere I would like to walk alone at night. An all female staff maintained a 24 hour reception and I was concerned for their safety at night.

  • Habibirad from Austria – 27 April 2025 (7/10)

The room was clean and well equipped. The breakfast was good and complete. The staff were friendly, helpful and very nice. The location was easy to access by train and public transport.

What could be improved: At night, when we were sleeping, the noise of people who had been drinking, making noise and screaming, would not let us sleep.

  • Janice from United Kingdom – 25 April 2025 (9/10)

Cleanliness of the hotel. Size of room and all staff we met were friendly and helpful. Breakfast very good.

    The room was very clean.
The size of the room was good.
The breakfast was very good with lots of good choices, especially the fresh fruits.

  • Aslı from Turkey – 21 April 2025 (9/10)

We stayed at the suit. It is well decorated and comfortable. It is ver well located and very close to all metro & tram stations. We could even walk to all sights.

What could be improved: The street at night is not that nice with lot of strangers. That’s why we preferred coming back with taxi on a late night.
